Those SBC posters who dish LU would never admit it, but it is true. LU has a greater upside than any of the current schools in the SBC. Those SBC naysayers get caught up with their extreme views and are unable to see the bigger picture of the potential of LU. I fully expect LU to get an invite or become independent, have a noticeable level of success after a period of years, improve their national awareness and appeal, and move beyond the entry level SBC or indy status. Should we take an SBC invite if offered? Absolutely. Is that the long term, answer all conference, no. We will gain FBS entry, have a level of success that makes us more attractive and then we'll be noticed as those leaving the SBC, C-USA, Big East and the ACC for better venues. It is going to happen in time.

I'm sure you realize that a few years back the NCAA came up with a rule not allowing anyone to become FBS as an independent. You can go indy once there, but not as a means to entry.

Also, why certainly people are fearful of how you might possibly perform athletically. That is a ridiculous statement for you guys to make. Though, the only reason there is fear, is they aren't sure you would be participating on a level playing field. You have a thread already dedicated to that topic.

Its no different when you ask a young lady for a date, most people will gravitate to those they are most like from a social status, in appearance, and who have similar religious beliefs. Schools aren't so sure about you on anything other than your strong Christian atmosphere. Your appearance and social status is something they are struggling to accept. You need to work harder at saying the things that will get you liked rather than the things that will turn people off.

I hope you realize that I am not talking about message board conversation, but if the other SB schools think your administration has any of the same thoughts you personally believe as I have in bold above, then you will never get an invite. Take a chill and learn to be one of the guys, join the club, demonstrate you want to be a part of something for a very long time and you will see the leaders of the SB start to accept you. Scare tactics will get you nowhere and a "primadonna" attitude even less.

Your players looked totally stupid back in Nov. when they were immediately saying they would be playing at home before it was announced that the game would be at JMU. That crap is seen by everyone, and that attitude is the thing you guys must work hard at overcoming. It certainly wasn't a humble attitude and not indicative of the way a Christian should behave.

Please take a moment to digest my thoughts before you respond.

RE: SBC Posters be Cray Cray
let me see if I digested this right. So talking about having a home game makes us looks stupid and projects an attitude? What does bidding an astronimical number that was way past anything even close just to make sure there is no chance you can play away from home project? I mean they doubled Liberty's arrogant bid. I was in the JMU press box working their game the day LU Newton Coastal. Trust me there was plenty of attitude to go around.

I was not impressed with our bid as well. It was another misstep by our administration. I didn't believe we acted in the best interest of JMU back in 2012 by bidding less than $50K and I don't believe we acted in the best interest of JMU this past season. You ever witnessed people at an auction get caught up in the process rather than paying a fair value. That is what I believe we did. Our bid demonstrates that our admin couldn't stand the heat they received from the ridiculously low bid in 2012 so they weren't about to let it happen again. Neither year did we act responsible.

This is the problem with so many Liberty fans. I offered some things for you guys to think about in order to make you a little more appealing to an FBS conference. You appear to not give a crap what anyone thinks about you by trying to turn the conversation elsewhere. I was only using the example of the football players and their cocky attitude toward the wealth of money surrounding Liberty.

There is no reason for the defensive posture.

BP, good to have you join us here as you visit and comment often. I'm a little confused by your posts as it is inconsistent with the depth and quality of others that you have made. I'll only respond to the comments that you directed to me and allow Knucklehead and others respond otherwise.

You highlighted my post, "LU has a greater upside than any of the current schools in the SBC. Those SBC naysayers get caught up with their extreme views and are unable to see the bigger picture of the potential of LU".

Here's my reason for the post. There is an underlying, non verbal sentiment, that LU has more assets, cash, backing from within, tha any of the SBC schools. There are hundreds of posts stating to take the cash from Liberty, let them buy themselves in, and many more. LU does not have the restraints of bureaucrats that the public schools do. It's just a fact that LU can act, and re-act quicker, in a more deliberate fashion than a state supported school. They build buildings, improve facilities (see post today on expanding the ice hockey rink), build road ways under railroads (that is a biggie), tear old buildings down, build newer more efficient ones, and more. It's their advantage. It's just the way things are.

Regarding LU having a greater upside than anyone else in the SBC. It's also simply true. With the recent FCS move-ups and realignment shifts, the SBC, which I truly hope LU gets an invite from in the near future, is the entry level FBS conference. That's not bad, it's just another fact. It has been raider, poached and poked from the C-USA. There are numerous posts where records, TV contracts, attendance, etc... attempt to justify the SBC equal and greater than the C-USA and MAC. We most all know that is not the case from past actions and perceptions.

With the position of Liberty being to move at it's own pace free of many restrictions of public schools, and as the SBC as the FBS entry level conference, one can then compare LU to those existing schools.

One could compare athletic budgets, facilities, branding, athletic records, post season success and more. I've not delved into that analysis to substantiate the posts. If an analysis shows that LU is substantially behind the current SBS schools then I stand corrected. If I was a betting man, I would wager LU is near equal or surpassing on many important points with the exception of post season success. And that is and will change in a short time.

What LU has as an upside to athletic success is what is so vivid on the CSNbbs. There is a huge, anti LU contingency for all the reasons that we know. Here's another example. I lived in South Florida in the 80's and 90's and became a 'Canes fan. When the UofM played Notre Dame, there was extra sizzle. You may remember when ND stomped Miami, and then Miami piled on when Faust was coach. Remember Catholics vs. Convicts. That's was the tone of the games between ND and Miami. To a much lesser extent that is similar to the perception of Liberty. Again not a comparison to ND but an example. This will increase for LU as they win in the future bigger games.

I am comparing ND to Miami, not to Liberty. What is similar is the intense dislike from athletic fans that are not LU fans. What's unique is when LU plays teams (WVA, UNC, App St, JMU, ODU) the sentiment shifts from off field rhetoric to on field play. It's something bbs keyboard fans have no conception of as they spew their righteous views. Remember that my comment about the upside of LU was on the LU board and not on the Conference Realignment or SBC board.

I was surprised by the lowbrow comment of the LU players looking stupid. A comment like this is out of character from you. That really was unwarranted and beneath the quality of your past posts. To state that in a post questions the intellect of LU players. I'll bet the incident was an excitement or communication error. I bet you regret that comment. I hope so.

Your comment, "I hope you realize that I am not talking about message board conversation, but if the other SB schools think your administration has any of the same thoughts you personally believe as I have in bold above, then you will never get an invite. Take a chill and learn to be one of the guys, join the club, demonstrate you want to be a part of something for a very long time and you will see the leaders of the SB start to accept you. "primadonna" attitude. Hmmm. That is a stretch to comprehend and unclear on the example you are meaning. Of all the names, ids, descriptions that LU, or individual posters has been called in the past that's a new one. If believing LU will succeed athletically in SBC membership, and beyond is being a primadonna, then I guess one could be called primadonna.

If school admins and prez use this board as a reference for FBS membership consideration, as you may believe, then most of us would lose all respect due to the volume of anger, untruths and emotional outburst that exists. So far, the "club" and "one of the guys" that you state does have some pretty sketchy members with extreme views.

And lastly I'll conclude with a suggestion that you made at the end of your post. Please take a moment to digest my thoughts before you respond.

Well thought perspective. I want to say, though the word "stupid" came over as offensive, it was meant as an attention getter. I could have certainly toned it down, but I was trying to let you guys see what the world sees. Many insiders to LU would be well served to tone down the "we have the finances to do anything we wish" attitude. Your FB players did not obtain this attitude on their own, its a mindset which is common within the LU community. Its okay to believe this within yourself, but not to put it on public display and that is what I saw on national TV, not on a private forum.

Maybe this is just me and my love for humbleness (trust me I know many of my JMU colleagues could take a lesson in this as well), never-the-less, I look up to someone like a Warren Buffet who drives a modest car and lives in a modest home, but could purchase the state of Rhode Island should he desire.

I thank you for the response and I promise that any thoughts that I have are not in any way meant to tear down LU, rather the opposite, help you grow. I have many ties to LU with a nephew as an alumni, many children of friends either attend or have graduated, and all my in-laws are in the area. Unlike many of my brothers over the mountain, I see many advantages to growing together and believe we could one day be another Duke/UNC, as someone we love to hate.

On a side note: two questions, what did you guys bid and do you have any inside information on the forth game of our original FB contract? It was originally set to begin the 2008 season, which we postponed or cancelled the first game and was never played. Now, we have this game next year which is seemingly a whole new contract? Can you elaborate on any of this if you have any of the scoop? We've never been told whether this is a home-and-home contract or any of the particulars nor have we been told whether the first contract will ever be completed.

Scare tactics will get you nowhere and a "primadonna" attitude even less. "

You are a class act BP. A tip of the hat to you. As I have no remembrance on the JMU series contract, I'll ask others to answer your question.

RE: SBC Posters be Cray Cray
It is my understanding that this fall is the conclusion of the 4-year deal after several starts & stops. I also have heard that now that Mickey is gone, our two teams are looking seriously at scheduling regularly moving forward.

And forgive us for being over the top in defending our standing in the collegiate world. We have been banished to the Big Souh for decades and have had to battle that stigma in everything we do recruiting. That has created a certain defense mechanism that comes into play rather quickly at times.

This might be true, but makes little sense to me, though certainly not surprising with the way we seemingly mismanage negotiations and contracts. The original deal signed back in 2007 was for two home and two away games and was to begin at JMU in 2008. At the very last minute, right before the 2008 season, we cancelled that game due to our students having a break and would not be on campus. Then we played the rain game in 2009, back up to JMU in 2010, then back to LU in 2011. Therefore, a game is remaining to be played at JMU (at least in my mind). Then, it really threw me when this years' game was announced to be played at LU. Maybe one day it will all be explained.

As far as your second paragraph, understood. Do you know if LU ever made an attempt to move to the CAA? I'm guessing the timing was out of whack for that to happen. You guys started promoting yourself as an FBS candidate just about the time we started losing members. You probably thought you may as well stick with the plan to move to FBS rather than to switch within the FCS ranks, and the CAA probably thought to themselves, why bring those guys over here if they are going to go FBS in a short period.

I think Liberty has tried several times to join the CAA with the most recent being around 2006 or so. Now LU wants FBS and moving in FCS isn't likely as no one will take a school looking to leave.

Well, now how about this, JMU vs SMU on 9/26

I am constantly puzzled and wonder about the reaction from LU. We had word this might take place.

These cancellations are probably why the last game of the series is at LU as an apology or bone that was thrown.

It appears that the need to generate revenue outside of student fees is impacting football scheduling. Or it could mean that JMu now is following Mickey's mantra that no good can come from the Dukes playing us as it only helps our cause.

You can't blame a school for wanting to play s FBS team, plus it's a winnable game for them. SMU won 1 game last year. As much as I wanted to play JMU this year, I give them no grief for adding an FBS school.

If the roles where reversed, LU would act as quickly as JMU. We just get to rub sand in their eyes a while for backing out.

You can still find ways to give them grief. It is fun!

Tis true, it's all in good fun. Hey, JMU verbally beat us, stuck it to us, berated us, out smacked us, all until we beat them. We've got the upper hand in that left to play a top 20 FCS team to go play a 1-11 FBS team. The Dukes have become the "we'd rather play one of the worst FBS teams rather than the team that last beat us in the playoffs at home. Just a little more eye poking while we can.

Quote, "I want to specifically thank Athletics Director Jeff Barber and his staff at Liberty for working with us on this change," Bourne added. "We look forward to finding a mutually-agreeable date in the future to place this game back on our respective schedules."

Okay, how long before Jeff makes a statement to LU fans?
