RE: C-USA needs a ESPN TV deal
The crowd has a better chance to get in "game time shape" at night games. The games at night always seem to have the louder crowds, which is the biggest part of the home field advantage.

Noon games are the worst. I just don't feel like binge eating and drinking at 8am.

I'm only good for 1-2 tailgates a year for noon games because getting up at 7am to get in game mode is just hard to do.

I'm really excited about our later games this year.

^^^^^^^^

night games are where the true advantage lies.....not only does the alcohol help amp the crowd, it allows the locals that work on saturday to attend, it allows those that drive 5+ hrs to attend, and it puts the other team in the position to have to sit around and think about it...

noon kicks are what tv is for....

When you kill tailgating it screws your traffic pattern all to hell. Instead of people drifting in over the course of the day, everyone ends up trying to get to the stadium at about the same time. Only time I've ever missed a kickoff was for a Thursday game when leaving work traffic collided with get to the game traffic.

The other problem with 11 am is that it means half-time comes at about 1 pm. In Houston, that can be plain damn hot until late October.

I do not like Thursdays. But it is easier to skip out of work early on a Friday and get some good tailgating in before the game. Rice hosted UCLA on a Friday night (before Labor Day) in 2013, and UTEP on a Friday night (late November) in 2014. Both games had good attendance and a "happy hour" atmosphere.

Yup. Its almost a health issue in a humid climate like Houston. Houston and Rice should never have afternoon games until mid-October. Its just not fun.

You're absolutely right. It really is a health issue. I miss all the night games at Rice from when I was growing up. Night games were a regularity until November and the atmosphere was great. TV has screwed everything up. I hate day games in the south. It's brutal. A man could damn near die out there, not to mention his wife and kids. I hope Rice eventually covers most of the east deck and installs fans for this reason. No one enjoys football in that torturous son and heat and the university loses money

We opened the 2013 season with Duke at home and it was high heat and humidity. Drunks and older folks were passing out left and right. Medical staff and the golf carts were everywhere.

I would rather not be playing Tue and Wed football games. I was looking at Ohio's schedule for next year. They have ZERO Saturday games in November. That's because they are on ESPN and not nearly as much TV money as we get in C-USA

That's awful. I'm sure the MAC enjoys the other coverage they get from the agreement, but for what they get paid, that Tuesday/Wednesday stuff has got to have long since reached a point of diminishing returns.

RE: C-USA needs a ESPN TV deal
What's tough for CUSA is the American selling its self low ($$$) for higher exposure. The financials of the American TV contract will be used against CUSA.

I hated the payout numbers for the American with the current contract but it was all about exposure on TV. Good or bad for us, it will be a sticking point for any contract CUSA signs next.

Yes because that is the best way to get exposure. The casual fan will watch if it's on ESPN. No disrespect to American sports network but the casual fan isn't going to go through the trouble of buying rabbit ears and searching for cusa games on channel 14.3.

It's exposure, but not necessarily good. The stands are empty during the week and no one thinks anyone attends our games.

And you don't have to buy rabbit ears. You can't be truly can't be this slow. Are you just trying to stir the nest?

I wasn't trying to insult you. That network is not on the list of channels on Time Warner Cable down here in NC. Try not to get so butt hurt over a simple statement.

ASN has like 5million affilitates. I can't speak for all of them but the one in Shreveport isn't difficult to find. It's channel 21 on directv, dish, cable, and off air antenna. They also play ACC games and used to play SEC games.

Yep. It's pretty much a newer, better version of Jefferson Pilot.
