RE: JMU Chickens out of Liberty rematch
I posted this on another one of your threads:

Here is what needs to happen, Montana State is looking for a home and home deal for the first week of the season. Delaware State has the week of the 26th of Sept off. Move your Delaware State game to the 26th have Montana State come to Liberty this year and skip a year with you going there in 2017. I say skip a year only so that you don't travel two times in one season to the state of Montana. This gives you as competitive of a game as you were to have with us. Gives you 6 home games and gives you a D1 game vs a D2 that hurts your chances of the playoffs.

We don't have to travel to Montana next year. We played there several years ago.

I believe BP is presenting us an option to consider if we don't have a competitive game in the works with the open date. But I believe AD Barber has one already lined up and info will be coming shortly.

True. The anticipation for the Sept. 26 game was very high. With the JMU reschedule, a re-match in Lynchburg with JMU would be sweet. We can anticipate ots of energy and the biggest game at Williams Stadium, as any playoff game will be.

I have no issue with this at all. Many fans want a cakewalk through the playoffs, but I'm all about the competition with every game we play. No, I don't care to see us go to Alabama and get slaughtered, but any game where there is even a remote hope of victory I want to experience.

I was in Scott Stadium for our victory over UVA back in the 80's and I was in Lane when we took down the Hokies. Not much better in the sports world. To have played Morgan State, as Richmond did, in the first round, would not have gotten me juiced.

Good teams can become better teams when the play and win against equal or greater competition. As a kid, my dad owned a family billiards (pool hall). I played with and experienced bad, good, exception and hustling players. I always learned more, and became better, by playing better players and mostly losing rather than winning. As I gained experience and confidence, I began to win more and eventually achieved a level where I could play better than most. I'm pleased that LU has moved to playing better competition rather than expected win games. It's the way to get better. We'll take our lumps playing better teams, but as your UVA and VT wins helped make JMU a better team so will quality wins for LU advance the program.

RE: JMU Chickens out of Liberty rematch
I don't think it would really help if we got smeared by an Ohio State on a yearly basis but every once in a while I think it would be fine as to show the kids the kind of program we want to strive to become. Just like I don't think it is particularly useful to schedule a D II school unless necessary. You don't really get to learn much about your team or get better by beating helpless schools. When Liberty goes FBS then I'd like them to phase out FCS games.

Well according to Tweets from Flames Nation and Chris Lang tonight, Homecoming is now the Oct 24th game vs Kennesaw St. It also appears that the date JMU abandoned (I believe Sept 26th) will be an away game that Chris can't announce yet and we will only have 5 home games. Thanks JMU. Come on.

I don't blame JMU for taking a money FBS game but it sucks we were on the wrong side of that. I hope we kick the snot out of whoever we play and JMU gets slaughtered. But I wish for that all the time anyways.

So let me see if I follow this. Chris has been verbally told who we are playing as the replacement game for JMU, placed it on his Twitter account, but says he can't say it yet. Sounds like some tweet twerking trying to get us to follow his tweets. This bites!

I think he's just not allowed to release the info yet in case it isn't finalized. There is probably a tentative agreement and Chris doesn't want to look stupid if it falls through but he does want to give us some relief that our schedule is filled.

Then simply post when it's sufficiently strong Just seems bait and switch to me. What does it accomplish other than to get LU fans artificially excited. "I've got some really/possibly/maybe exciting news coming, but I can't tell you yet until it become official". A more appropriate statement could have an announcement coming at a date and time, which would be a stronger commitment. Just my view.

Guys, it is definitely going to be a road game. Everything in Chris' tweets is accurate. I haven't heard where we are going but we are definitely hitting the road. Now we will have four straight road games. That's more than a month between home games after Montana. Brutal. But that is the position we were forced into by JMU's move. My understanding is that we will be holding them to a date in Lynchburg in the next year or so as opposed to them buying their way out. Sad situation all the way around.

4 away games in a row is tough. Still, I'd rather it be the strongest possible game. Everyone will know the situation we are in regarding the schedule. I wonder if we're working with a team that will require a shift on their side and that's the hold up?

RE: JMU Chickens out of Liberty rematch
No matter how you look at this JMU put us in a bad situation. Only 5 home games is not a good situation. It makes me think the jmu contract must have been an easy out for them. It appears all they had to do is agree to a game on a later date and they were able to walk. This can't sit well within our ad's office. Southern Illinois has been tossed about as a replacement. That ads zero excitement in my book.

Where is the Southern Illinois talk coming from, but wouldn't southern illinois be a possible winnable FCS game against a tough MVC team, though and strengthen the end of year playoff voting arguement anyways

anyway you slice it my travel points will be going up with 4 straight weeks on the road, no matter where they play, gotta be there for my kid

So Illinois has been mentioned as a fill in game earlier. We can hope that if that happens, and it is an away game, that 1) LU will travel well (Google maps says 740 miles from Lynchburg and 11 hours and 15 minutes by car) and 2) plays well and comes away with a convincing win. If that happened, and we had a strong season to date, that could propel us higher, or near equal to, than if we had a home win game with JMU. But if SI is very weak and JMU ends up strong then that could be a point when post season play is considered.

I have not heard who the team is we are in the process of signing contracts to play just that it will be home-and-home starting on the road. But Southern Illinois makes a ton of sense. They need a home date more than we do and they are the ype of program that helps build our credibility playing ... not quite Montana but not far behind.
