JMU Chickens out of Liberty rematch
http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnfo...?id=804872

Was soooooo looking forward to this game and a rocking out Williams stadium. Such a disappointment. They've already rescheduled this game before. This sounds like an attempt to take a money game to make up for their astronomical Playoff bid. Sad.

"To be the man, you have to beat the man."

I get why they dropped us and I can't say I would have done it differently.

Splain. Their attitude seems to be we can't take the chance. Ours would be to take on any and all comers especially in state.

We are the Man right now since we won the last meeting which happened to be at their house in the playoffs. They are probably still ahead of us in perception and don't want that to change so they look to avoid us. I can't blame them for it. The P5 schools do it all the time.

RE: JMU Chickens out of Liberty rematch
If there is another match up vs. JMU in the FCS playoffs in 2015, that will be one intense game. As JMU was getting lots of flack for no FBS games, one can see why they took the SMU game. There is more upside for Liberty and more downsize for JMU in this change.

This leaves us in a brutal position. This was going to be homecoming for us with potentially 25k in the stands. Now barring something incredible for Paul Rutigliano and the coaching staff, we will probably have another D2 stinker filling that hole.

For the record, these are the types of moves that build rivalries. The next time we face them I expect it to be intense.

With situations like this, is there a payoff to get the date released or my gentleman's agreement.

Usually the school breaking the contract pays money or reschedules.

I've gotta believe that AD Barber has a plan in place that is soon to be released. He's too wise to just let out JMU without a plan.

RE: JMU Chickens out of Liberty rematch
We dont have a say in it. All contracts are written with a legal buyout. It appears JMU was able to get enouh money from SMU to pay for the buyout. Now we have to bust our tails to fill that date. At this stage in the game, I would suspect we will get a either a D2 at home or an FBS/FCS road trip. What a mess.

Edit. Take out Fordham, Howard, Bryant, Jacksonville, and Sam Houston. They do have games.

I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when Barber was told JMU wants out if the contract. Puts us in a very difficult spot.

We are not the only school stuck in this predicament. UAB dropping their schedule meant a dozen FBS teams had a date to fill. Hopefully the shuffle will open up a nice situation for us.

I guess we are now one of the OC FCS teams to avoid.

We have been that way for a few seasons.

I smell a SWAC home-and-home.

Good call. That would be a respectable fit. Not JMU but not D2 either.

By moving (not cancelling) the Liberty game, JMU owes the Flames no money. Bourne expects to possibly play that game at LU in 2019.

Bourne said that's the biggest game payout the Dukes have ever had for playing an FBS team.

Just talked with JMU AD Jeff Bourne. He said SMU will pay JMU $425,000 + lodging, busses and meals for the Sept. 26 game.
