Wait. What?
There was a built-in advantage. You were the one seed. You (theoretically) had the easiest route to the title.

Sorry, someone had to say it.
Thanks for coming to Birmingham!
Yeah, outside of North La it makes your school sound like a joke. You're the best university in Ruston.
um... Congrats I guess.
Says a guy who's school embarrassed CUSA by being the first school in decades to disband football. Look....if you are looking for people to get behind your football cause (and I have been a proponent of Free UAB) then writing posts like the one above about my school WON'T DO IT. Don't be dumb.
I was just saying that it is a poor choice of words from your school's PR (recruiting) department.

Congrats on the W UAB today. That said I am sure there are at least a couple of schools that would taken a 4 seed and played the tourney at home instead of a higher seed. Not taking anything away from your team just saying

Sure, and said schools can and should consider bidding to host it.
Think we enjoyed the Memphis Invitational all those years?

Birmingham/UAB bid on the tournament long before anyone had any idea whether the team would be any good.
Hell, we had our own fans predicting 10 wins.
The vibe that this was somehow unfair is mystifying to me.
Yes, the stars aligned that UAB pulled it together the same year it hosted the tournament. In case you hadn't noticed, the ball hasn't bounced our way much lately. Though clearly your band has.

Yeah, I was hoping for some left over magic from last year but it wasn't meant to be . Having said that, it's not like we choked away our best chance in the last couple of decades to make the NCAA tournament.

Life has been really good of late, thanks for asking Smitty. As you're probably aware, there's an acute shortage of many basic goods. Fortunately, that's not the case when it comes to young ladies.

And do basketball players care that football is gone? More money to flow their way and, while basketball was already bigger at UAB, less competition for fans and "premiere sport" status.
B.S. How would you feel when you don't even know in which conference you'll be playing during your 4 years at UAB. UAB deserves to play WKU, MTSU, LA Tech, UTEP, etc. We don't want to go play a conference game against Troy State or Stetson
I think all conference member's majority of fans want UAB in CUSA, which is classy in and of itself. I dare say that fans of most conference would say the hell with them if they dropped football. I don't think you need to fret over a chant at a basketball game. That is part of it.

Tell you what. Close your football down and see if anyone, including your basketball team, cares. Given that football brings more money into the athletic department than anything else, of course they care, and besides, it's your football team.
What an ignorant, classless, and heartless thing to say. Jerk. You have no clue how gutwrenching this crap has been, and we UAB fans are hurting and don't find it a bit funny. Our university hasn't crapped on our efforts to get football back since yesterday. Sure, it's a sensitive subject to us. I'm sure we could come up with stuff you wouldn't like to make a cheer out of too.
That said, I expect our band and student section to be very hardcore and partisan, and to make me laugh sometimes with what they say and their antics. I expect them to get into the other team's head a bit if they can.
We heard that and my wife is like "Aw, man, that's just awful!", but I couldn't help but laugh. They were doing their bit to help their team. It's not like they started racist chants or something, it was just low and classless, and I have a low sense of humor.
And nobody on this board or at the game had anything to do with UABs plight. Folks have been very sympathetic towards UAB and favor your continued membership. In other conferences, I would guess folks would say the hell with you if you dropped football. I wouldn't worry about a chant at a basketball game. I would be thankful people are supportive.

You are right. It is a two way street, so why are UAB folks calling Tech classless because of a student chant?

Every band member that is aware of the events that have taken place at UAB are in complete support of the #FreeUAB movement. In fact, many of us joined in with the chanting of "Fire Ray Watts."
Honestly the chant just raised awareness of UABs plight. I know it was to be offensive but it does show the importance of football to the college experience.
It was student's yelling at a BB game. I don't call that meaning to be offensive any more than anything else at a game.

Move on stodgdog - game is over and it really doesn't matter that much anyway. Maybe we will get an NIT home game

My view on sportsmanship and fandom:
For when the One Great Scorer
comes to mark against your name,
He writes—not that you won or lost—
but how you played the game.

With all due respect, sir, I am hard pressed to recall the last time UAB played a men's basketball game at the BJCC before this week, I am talking a lot of years, before this week, last time I'd seen them there was against Auburn, to give you an idea of how long ago that was, Andy Kennedy was UAB's head coach, then. Some of my fellow Blazers fans seated near me in attendance last night (one of them is a coach), didn't even know that this was UAB's first home basketball venue. Only advantage the Blazers had in there was the crowd. Please keep in mind , UAB has won twice by the skin of their teeth against two damn good programs.
I stand corrected, Kennedy played in that game against Auburn for UAB. My bad, when you reach my age, things get mixed up sometimes...
