Great matchup but the better team/coach combo won the game tonight.
Congratulations of a well deserved victory. The fact that State made it to this point in the NCAAT and was competitive all the way through is an indication that Gottfried is doing a great coaching job. He went up against a coach and team that has proven time and time again to be an elite one and I am sure learned a lot from the experience. Perhaps in the years to come, as experience, talent and expectations increase he will be mentioned high on the list of coaches you want in March? Building Blocks. 04-cheers

So, Gottfried can't coach in March - i.e. tournament play. In four years at State, he has coached the Pack to the semifinals of the ACCT 3 times, and to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAAT twice. In every one of those cases, those results represented overachievement based on their seeding. How does that suggest he can't coach in March?

Notre Dame tied Kentucky 31 all at halftime.

I look for UK to attack the basket in the 2nd half. ND doesn't have the size to stop them, so they better be able to take some charges or something!

ND offense has been very efficient (what else is new?)

I think everyone outside of UK fans is literally a fan of ND tonight. Would love to see them take UK down -- everyone at UL would truly love you forever. You have no idea how hard it is to sit here and listen to the thirty-whatever and 0 every freaking day.

Great game. Kentucky is just too damn good.

ND got away from its game late and Kentucky capitalized.

Great Game and Season ND. Too bad the push off on Grant was a no call just before His last shot. Clearly visible from the ground level camera shot . But it is what it is.

Good effort by Louisville but terrible shooting in second half sinks the Cards. Louisville had a good season.
It's clear that Michigan State was NOT a 7 seed (and the Cavaliers should not have faced them in their second game as a 2 seed).

The Cards were done in today by the same problem they had all season... poor shooting leading to a long offensive drought. Overall happy this team made the Elite 8 but frustrating that a Final 4 was there for the taking if they made a few FT's.

Congrats to Duke on another Final 4. Quite an impressive victory today.

Haha, that's quite a stretch. No sense comparing a 2 seed falling in the Round of 32 vs a 4 seed making the Elite 8.

Neither has 2/3 of the ACC teams, so not sure why UVa is singled out in this thread. It takes some luck along with consistent high-level performance year in and year out in order to get a championship. I'm convinced that UVa basketball is now performing consistently on that level and, now with some luck, will join the other handful someday.
I'm glad the ACC now has bball champions UofL and Syracuse to join the league. Of course UNC and Syracuse have cheated to get some of their championships but I would rather not have a championship than stoop to that level.
I also don't think it any less valid of true championships simply because the sport does not generate a lot of revenue for a school.
