Wow, that's terrible.
He's a good guy and great coach.

Yeah he is. Just thinking how well he did after that double dribble call with 2 seconds to go(great call by the refs there btw).

Really good coach. Made the NCAAs 12 times in 20 years of coaching.

But postseason success has eluded him. This is only his 2nd Sweet 16.

Hard to call a coach great who's not great in March, but maybe this is the year he breaks through.

He's made the NCAA's 10 out of 15 years at Notre Dame.

Thing you have to remember, Notre Dame is really no basketball powerhouse. They've been to only 5 elite 8's in their history with only 1 Final 4. In ESPN's top 50 programs thing they did a few years ago- Notre Dame was 29th best.

Losing a parent at any age is difficult. Prayers with him and being able to still coach at this difficult time. Hopefully, the game provided a chance for him to forget his loss for a couple hours. I am pretty sure the pain came right back after the game even worse since he couldn't share it with her.

He didn't even tell anyone, didn't try to use it as motivation, nothing.

The word got out only after the Butler game was over.

Today is Mike Brey's 56th birthday. His Mom was 84.

ND puts no great emphasis on basketball.

It plays in a multi-purpose building...built in 1968.

It did spend a fair amount of money on renovations lately.

But, ND basketball has no separate practice facility and will not unless a big time donor puts up all of the money.

ND home attendance hovers around 7,500 or so.

Given all of that, plus academic restrictions on recruiting, Mike Brey does a hell of a job at ND.
