RE: UAB Football question? What is the earliest UAB could field a team?
From the CUSA section on the board.
UAB renews bb coach to 6 year deal.
http://csnbbs.com/thread-732388-post-119...id11922072
"Moves from $525,000 to $1,000,000 per year, plus incentives. Also announced are upgraded practice facilities, remodeled basketball offices, LED lighting in Bartow Arena, & raises for assistant coaches. "
Sound like football is long gone now and investing into basketball. That sounds like a move to the A-10 rather than staying in the CUSA or going to the Sunbelt, A-sun..etc.

The word from the A-10 appears to be 'no thanks'. They are full. And Birmingham is not close to any other team. The A-10 also has two outliers that are defection candidates (St Louis and Dayton). If they lose those two, they probably just do nothing and remain an Eastern basketball league.

Look at SMU, they were nat'l championship contenders and the death penalty ruined them for decades with unlimited booster resources. I just don't see a "competitive" UAB squad for at least 10-15 years.
If this is remotely accurate, it would not really be a good business decision for CUSA to keep UAB. It really looks bleak for UAB.
Yeah, but SMU had to stop cheating. That explains a lot of the fall. UAB wasn't cheating. The comparison isn't apples to apples.

Maybe so.
What about the Horizon League taking in UAB since they fit the urban profile of the conference.
Do a deal with UAB, NKU and Belmont all together.......Schools that can make the Horizon a player once again on the basketbal scene.

You guys need to take what MWCTex says with a grain of salt. UAB paid Mike Anderson that amount when we had a football team. This is nothing but a PR move by Watts in light of yesterday events.
But good for Haase and his staff though. Also, the MVC has already indicated interest in UAB if football is not brought back.
