Take Colorado. if they have back to back 2 game sets- they could travel to San Francisco and then Los Angeles.
Also, 3 conferences just isn't happening. What you said would have NO interleague play. That's just DOA.
Also anything would have the big elephant in the room- the DH.
DH should be universal...Done, problem solved. I don't love the DH, but if the AL is never going to get rid of it, the NL has to adopt it. Ridiculous that 2 leagues are operating with different sets of rules.
And you wouldn't need interleague play if you realigned the leagues and divisions. If the Mets regularly played the Yankees and Sox you wouldn't need them to go to the west coast. And can you imagine how happy the players would be if they didn't have to make any cross country trips, or at least far less of them?
DH isn't coming to the NL ever.
And you are absolutely kidding yourself if you think interleague play is ever going away.
The only change that might happen as a result of Pittsburgh is seeding teams w/o regard to divisions for playoffs. Even there it's not likely to happen.
Absolutely disagree. We will definitely see the DH in the NL within the next decade.
I'm not so much saying that interleague play will go away, as it would no longer be needed in my alignment. Obviously this won't happen, it was just my suggestion to lessen the impact of some of the league's problems
I hate the DH with a burning passion, but balancing the NL and AL and creating daily interleague play represents the death knell of the senior circuits opposition. As Wedge recently pointed out, DH is universal across all of the minor leagues.
As for a realignment that essentially eliminates the NL and AL, I find that to be a tougher nut to crack. The best I could come up with is;
PACIFIC: SD, LAL, LAA, SF, OAK, SEA
MIDWEST: HOU, TEX, KC, MIN, AZ, DEN
CENTRAL: STL, MIL, DET, PIT, CHW, CHC
NORTHEAST: NYY, BOS, CLE, TOR, BAL, CIN
ATLANTIC: ATL, DC, MIA, PHI, NYM, TB
