Tiebreaker Scenario Question
So Drexel and Delaware are now fighting for the 6th seed and a bye in the CAA Tournament.

Drexel (8-8) plays Delaware (7-9) tonight. If Drexel wins, they clinch the 6 seed.

But if Delaware wins tonight, both teams are tied at 8-9 with wins against each other.

Then on Saturday, Drexel plays W&M and Delaware plays at Towson. Drexel wins, and Delaware loses, or vice versa, then the winner gets the 6th seed.

If both Drexel and Delaware lose on Saturday, Delaware would get the tiebreaker as W&M would be the highest ranked team, in which both are not common in wins since Delaware beat W&M.

But if Drexel and Delaware both win on Saturday, both Drexel and Delaware are tied head to head, and would have even records against all opponents....

What is the next tiebreaker to decide? Would it come down to a coin flip?

RE: Tiebreaker Scenario Question
Here's the rulebook: http://caasports.com/documents/2014/9/2/...etball.pdf

RPI becomes the next tiebreaker if they each have equal records against every other team in the standings. Currently Drexel has the better RPI. They are at 244 whereas Delaware is 276.

Quote:"c. If a tie still exists, the Ratings Percentage Index, as computed from the RPI Report by 9:00 AM, on
the day following the last scheduled conference game, will be used to break the
tie. The teamwith the better RPI will earn the higher seed."

Coin-flips are no longer a valid method of breaking ties, regardless of how many teams are tied.

RE: Tiebreaker Scenario Question
Thanks. So it appears that Drexel can still get the 6 seed with one more win, whether it be tonight or Saturday. But playing with just 7 players dressed, it's going to be a dog fight for them to get that 1 win.

The only way Drexel does not play in the Quarterfinals is if they lose their next 3 and end the season on a six game losing streak.

RE: Tiebreaker Scenario Question
I didn't realize that Delaware beat WM twice. So it's pretty much the 7 seed for Drexel.
