Incorrect. NCAA rules say we'd have to be FCS for two years. There are no listed loopholes in which you can get a waiver.

That's starting a new program. We took a hiatus. We would be back at FBS. Everyone I have spoken with close to the situation including coach Clark has said FBS. Only way I would see it FCS is an extended period of time, not one season.

I frankly don't give a damn what the Cajuns think any way and I am half Cajun. last I checked this was the C-USA board and we are still members. They are not. They just want to be.

I don't think CUSA would accept those conditions....

since UAB will not be playing football this year I would think the conference would have some control over the conditions.

I would want a firm commitment from the school so we wouldn't be doing this again 3 to 5 years down the line. But then again I don't believe anyone of the presidents want to lose UAB and have to add another school. So in that light maybe they can live with the conditions.

I don't know the rules..haven't looked at them so is there anything that says if UAB doesn't play FBS football for 1 year you must drop down and then move back up? Or is there room to be put on probation like if schools don't meet the attendance numbers rule?

Who knows what will happen? There aren't really any NCAA rules pertaining to this situation are there? I don't think the NCAA could have reasonably foreseen any school president as draconian as Watts, nor any fanbase so quixotic as UAB's.

By not fielding a team this year, it would be a new program but part of the magic of the NCAA is that the Board of Directors is empowered in unique circumstances to make exceptions.

Current roster for FBS is:
James Phillips AD Northwestern
Gene Block, Chancellor UCLA
David Leebron, President Rice
Joseph Savoie, President Louisiana Lafayette
Eric Kaler, President Minnesota
Bud Peterson, President Georgia Tech
Harris Pastides, President South Carolina
John Hitt, President Central Florida
Kirk Schulz, President Kansas State
Roderick McDavis, President Ohio
Stan Albrecht, President Utah State
Jan Miller, Associate AD Virginia
Kendall Spencer, student-athlete, New Mexico

RE: Will UAB reinstate Football, Rifle and Bowling on June 1st?
A friend put forward an interesting theory lunch today. Just going to throw it out there.

He predicts that Watts and his group on June 1 will post a message along these lines.

"Football was not sustainable at UAB based on the factors we considered. The out-pouring of support and financial committments made have addressed my concerns about the viability of football. I am recommending that the Board of Trustees approve my request to reinstate football at UAB and resume competition in 2016 as well as restoring rifle and bowling."

His theory.

This a craptastic mess, the board is not going to renew his contract, far easier to let him hatchet football then stab him and throw his carcass to the crowd. The job cannot be enjoyable because of the anger and turmoil.

Board will have to give the final approval no matter what but if he comes out for it, then the blood is on the board. If they fear the backlash endangers their power, they cave. If they don't give a crap, they turn it down and the fury grows larger because their "stooge" stood up to them and they slapped him down.

If he is lucky the board gets pissed, buys him out and he can get the heck out of town trailing money behind him. If the board doesn't buy him out and still kills football it ain't his problem. He shows up and collects a monthly check larger than the average household makes in a year.

Watts isn't going to get a contract extension no matter what happens so the easiest choice is to appear noble as your ship sinks.

They're program wasn't "permanently" shut down like UAB football. The death penalty SMU received was just for the 1987 season and SMU elected not to play in 1988 because they had lost too many of their players to graduation or transfer. The NCAA and the SWC knew that SMU football was returning so they never lost their status.

If it gets made into a movie, I insist on playing the part of the handsome man at the Yum Center in the black hoodie yelling "You're a stain on UAB..... a stain" lol

The CSS report was given to UAB today, Watts & Co have said they'll release it Mon. That's not to say it may be leaked over the weekend by someone who does have UAB's interests at heart. This gives Watts & Co time to go over it & finagle what numbers they need to to show what they want it to show & it be the "official" report

So does Nick get to play himself on the climactic F bomb scene of Watts coming out after the announcement?
