Player Payments
Have seen some of the numbers thrown out that schools will be paying players (mostly in the ACC). Louisville will be paying over $5,000 a year per athlete. That was significantly more than the next ACC team. And the private schools seemed to be lagging way behind in dollars, with the exception of TCU and Baylor (I heard). If LU gets into the business of paying athletes, will we be able to be competitive?

I think it is based on a formula. I can't think of the name but it is based on a category of a normal student's tuition. At Liberty's level I would expect them to be better off than most.

Found this on the Sun Belt Board. Game changer for LU? I hope so.

RE: Player Payments
It is a game changer but be sure and brace yourselves for the haters. No matter if we beat App State and blow past JMU and make round 2 of the playoffs posters purposely ignore it. Not all but a fair amount do. Since these are just opinions of people with no power it doesn't matter but it does make it difficult to have a real conversation about going FBS.

The thread is about 15 posts longer on the SBC board. It's a move clearly aimed at the Sun Belt...that's for sure. (assuming the CUSA stuff is dead)

RE: Player Payments
Full COA will be a subject at the league meetings forthe Belt next month. But several schools have already announced that they will be taking advantage of the opportunity. I would suspect that most schools in the Sun belt & C-USA will at least try to maintain the costs for football & mens hoops. But this will get tough for the Troys, ULMs, UTAs & UALRs of the league to keep pace.

UL-Monroe is already on a shoe string budget. They may have to add another payday game to help with the cost.

Surprised to see many of the pro-Liberty posts on the Sun Belt board re: paying players. That's encouraging.

The feeling is not mutual at CoastalFans.com. Our Big South brethern are taking it as a call to war.

RE: Player Payments
The JMU posters made it sound like the CAA will not offer FCOA. This is a huge opportunity for the Big South to increase further decrease the gap by allowing schools to offer FCOA if they choose. Granted, I don't expect many (if any) to offer.

Huge and more huge. Simply a brilliant move. Now just keep the tempo and mo about sports. No more bugaboo or questionable moves, actions or statements that bring unfavorable publicity towards the school. Let sports drive the appeal of the FBS invite.

I can't help but feeling we may be getting all worked up over nothing. In the end we still may actually be no closer to FBS status. We position ourselves better, but there is no FBS conference invite or Indy allowance. In a way it feels like it did when all the expansion rumors were at their highest. We got all excited over nothing. That is not to discount that LU is doing all the right things to get us there.

Your caution is well heeded. And with this last action there is reason for excitement of the anticipated change and strength that LU expressed with this bold statement. There does seem to be a swing of those who were previously on the fence about Liberty with more now saying let them in and fewer saying never.

And this is only a forum for sports fans to express their views and hopes. If the invite vote were online on the CSNbbs, we would have a greater number supporting the invite or indy rule than in the past. The known anti LU band will forever not support us and that's okay.

RE: Player Payments
And to be honest I don't care what other message board posters say. What's important is how will their president vote in regards to Liberty. This is where it gets complicated. College presidents often don't have their finger on the pulse of the sports world, but instead look at academics and how a new school may fit in within the conference. We would be in much better shape if the ad's voted instead of the presidents.
