There are probably lots of flags of historical significance. Do they fly the Union Jack?

Well, the Union Jack is a British flag, which is the flag of a foreign country... so, I guess I don't see the similarity.

The Confederacy was a foreign country (to the United States of America) who fired upon Federal property at Ft. Sumter and engaged in a war against the duly elected American government.

Because people think it's the Confederate flag! 03-lmfao For starters...

I don’t have to know the name of the gun to understand the damage that it has done. And there’s no denying the damage and ill feelings that black Americans have against this particular flag for a multitude of different reasons. With that being said I don't feel that a Confederate Battle Flag should be flown on ANY government property. Now if the Sons of The Confederate or anyone else who wants to fly the flag on their own private property they should be able to do so without interference from anyone else.

Don't worry, that'll be attacked next.

And as much as a hate that damn flag I would fight for their rights to fly it on private property. Some jackarse down in South Alabama went to a historic Confederate Cemetery and removed the flags from graves of confederate soldiers who were laid to rest there. The flags have since been placed back on the graves but this was a stupid thing to do in the first place. Look I was born in Alabama and raised in Louisiana and I know all about this flag but I do not believe in infringing on someone else's right to do something on their own property or gravesites. That's way over the line in my opinion.

Private property..yes.

Public property....hell, no.

South Carolina's Confederate Flag...
Interesting read so far. To clear some things up:

• The Battle Flag is currently flown over the Confederate Monument. Only the State Legislature controls the flying if the flag.

• It is there due to a comprise between the State and the State Black Caucus when Gov Hodges was in office. The terms with that agreement finalized this issue forever according to those proceedings.

• No slave was purchase transported or brought into this country under the CSA , the Confederate Battle flag or any of its vessels. Only under: "Old Glory" her self. So that should be the flag that comes down if you spew that ideology.

• NCAA already has their position about not allowing SC to host any post season or Regional play in our state. Big deal !

Do you have any issue with the Flags of Spain, Portugal, the Dutch or the U.S. Flag? All are responsible for the slave trade that is linked to our nation.

According to Gov Nikki Haley, the Battle Flag that flies on the Confederate Memorial on the State House grounds has NEVER been a topic of conversation with ANY CEO of ANY Company that is or has relocated to the State of South Carolina. A few are: Volvo, BMW, Boeing, Michelin,.....

Lastly, I encourage you to educate yourselves on our countries true history. As far as hate for the Negro, just look to Abraham Lincoln. It's well documented just not spoken about.

Flying a Nazi flag is still a protected right in the US.

When they eventually go after any southern Civil War era flags, they'll conveniently point out the fact that the Nazi flag is also still legal, and they'll try to package it together. Even though there is no comparison.

If you think otherwise, you're naïve. This administration doesn't care about the Bill of Rights.

There's too much money being made by the race baiters to stop now.

This Administration? What about the prior one enacting the so called (sic) "Patriot Act"??

Sorry, bud. There's negative connotations with just about any flag. That's a weak argument to why it should be banned.

Stretch. If you can find something that says one of the core tenets for establishing the US was to wipe out Native Americans, I may consider this a valid counter argument.

I mean, it wasn't on paper, but pretty much from the get-go the US aimed at expanding westward which unfortunately included killing off the Natives.

Oh, I guess we had a rogue military then.

I guess our government should only be remembered for the good fights we fought.

Stop with the revisionist history. You're committing the same fallacy as the Confederate sympathizers.

I'd also suggest you read the Constitution of the CSA. It outlines that slavery would end in the Confederate States of America. All on its own.

All southern republicans should be forced to kiss Obama's boots. Afterwards they should either pledge allegiance to the United Communities of Obama or have a scarlet R scratched into there foreheads by Al Sharpton....
