Think it's more about pressbox improvement / luxury stuff, and not necessarily adding seats, right?

RE: ECU getting bids for football stadium expansion
The AD was on "ECU take over day" on the David Glenn show and mentioned that they were looking for architecture firms. I imagine there will be additional seats added but it wont be to 60k. This reno will be new locker rooms, coaches offices, ticket office, press facilities and include premium seating options (suites, boxes, etc). I'll be interesting to see what they decide on, I'm guessing capacity would only increase slightly unless the presser has a mini upper deck.

RE: ECU getting bids for football stadium expansion
I posted this a while ago in another thread but they are looking for a facility similar to what Cincy is constructing now and along the size of Lane Stadium / Carter Finley

And to clarify the OPs source, our AD Jeff Compher hosted the David Glenn Radio Show in Raleigh today and spoke about it.

RE: ECU getting bids for football stadium expansion
Not expansion to 60k more than likely, my assumption is to think Vaughn towers at NC State (Pic 1, Pic 2) or the Blue Zone at UNC-CH but not in the end zone (Pic 1, Pic 2). Luxury boxes, 1000 or so premium/club seats, and a new press box.

They could, though, go to another level and add academic space, coaches offices, football-specific sports medicine, new locker rooms. That has been a very big topic of discussion as well to include in these next set of renos.

Think multiple story press box across south side with first floor boxes/suites very much like the "middle deck" on the north side....say 2,000ish seats. It will be designed to accomodate a future upper deck (not part of this phase)....say 7,000 seats give or take. New field lighting options (that will not have to be moved for future expansion and everything else mentioned above. Also more than likely more seatbacks in the lower bowl (excluding the boneyard). Enclosing the concourses, etc. Will give the stadium a more cohesive look...rather than 5 distinct sections.

RE: ECU getting bids for football stadium expansion
Interesting news. Not surprising though. It was pretty obvious when we did the survey that we would be doing some sort of expansion.

That's what this project will do....in addition to other upgrades.

RE: ECU getting bids for football stadium expansion
Spoke to an employee of the company that handled the North Side of Ficklen expansion. He said he was in a meeting 3 weeks ago in Charlotte where they were putting together the financials on a bid for the expansion. If I get a chance I will send him an email to see what the proposal looked like. He did say at this stage of the bidding process that he would not expect anything to start for up to 2yrs but if we are trying to do some quick push or it is about a press box/ luxury suites it could end up being sooner.

Architectural renderings are just getting started, so won't be any for a while.

RE: ECU getting bids for football stadium expansion
From what I've heard it's just a few thousand more seats, think 54-56k total. Main reno on visual side is to the press box and some additional suite type seating/luxury boxes rather than a full upper deck.

At this point, it feels like VT is a conference game. We've played them every year for what seems like decades and have them scheduled for perpetuity.
