Add Ga Southern, ULL, Ark State, and Ohio (if we can poach them) to get to 18. Play eight division games with zero crossover and then have the championship game. East doesn't go west and west doesn't go east. Saves in travel expenses. So we would have:
Marshall
Ohio
WKU
MTSU
ODU
Charlotte
FAU
FIU
GSU
UAB
NTU
UTSA
Rice
UTEP
La Tech
USM
ASU
ULL
I mean, if it were to happen, this might be the most viable option. I dunno? But I'm fine if we add and fine if we don't.
I agree. I'd hate to see Texas State and Georgia State left out though. Texas State brings a lot of the Austin market and Georgia State brings, well,
Atlanta. My point being that you wouldn't want to leave out any schools that either deliver a market or that has potential within a market (Georgia State).
The obvious leftovers would be NMSU, Idaho, ULM, and possibly Troy. But I agree with the premise that there doesn't need to be any crossover games and that you can hopefully play everyone in your division, with the conference championship at the end of the year. It would probably exist more of an alliance between two conferences more than one conference with two divisions, and there's nothing wrong with that.
Great Southwest: UTEP, UTSA, Texas State, Rice, North Texas, Arkansas State, Louisiana Tech, ULL, Southern Mississippi, UAB, Alabama State
Eastern Mountains:Ohio, FIU, FAU, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Charlotte, Old Dominion, App State, Marshall, MTSU, WKU
Play a 9-game conference schedule so you'd miss playing only one division member each year.
