Pardon me, but I'm not going to listen to attempted smack from a school that literally just got to join the FBS party 2 years ago.

The current Sun Belt configuration is just as new as ODU so if you don't like reality go back to the Sun Belt boards and figure out which FCS school will turn you down next.

Which is just as new as the current CUSA configuration.

You'll find out quickly that leagues don't matter much anymore. You joined CUSA...congrats, that means nothing really. You're talking to a fan of the one Sun Belt School who has never really been interested in moving over. (Though throw in some cash and we might be persuaded) You guys are really nothing more than basically the Sun Belt 2.0 now...and would be nothing more than a lateral move for most of us.

More Sun Belt rah-rah lunacy. Nobody is calling Arkansas State because they don't bring anything so I'm glad your fanbase (or maybe just you) has stopped holding your breathe for an invite that isn't coming. You guys can keep touting all that "lateral move" or "Sun Belt 2.0" nonsense but when the UAB Troubles were occurring everybody in the Sun Belt was waiting by the phone for it to ring. And on these boards pimping.

Leagues matter plenty. FCS schools aren't refusing CUSA invites. It means we have a TV deal that pays. It means playing schools that actually care about basketball and spend money to compete. CUSA=better football, better basketball, better revenue and better programs.
Sun Belt=crappy basketball, low budgets and limited success

On another note, I have heard some interesting info regarding the Mac. Supposedly behind closed doors there is increasing support from many of the member schools voting to drop down as a group to FCS. Ohio supposedly is not in support of it and is looking to get out if possible. Problem is supposedly they currently dont have the season ticket base/financial support to make a move but are trying to drum up support.

never mind

Man aint that the truth. Even on their boards they were talking about who would get to move CUSA.

Lot of turmoil right now in the Ohio education system in terms of future funding of D-1 schools in the state. All it takes is 7 schools to vote in support of the move and the Mac will become an FCS conference.

And you are correct, merging with the Sunbelt is not an option for CUSA. We'd take anyone we want from that league. It's just a fairy tale dream for Sunbelt fans that a merger could take place.

Ive said for years that half of it not more than half of the MAC should be playing with Youngstown State in a IAA conference. In the early 2000s Marshall coach Bobby Pruett said what 70% of the MAC was thanking but didn't have the balls to say, that the MAC should cut the 3 bottom feeders off and go with a 9 team conference. At the time those 3 bottom feeders were CMU, EMU and Ball State/Buffalo. If the MAC would have done that I doubt Marshall would have ever left the MAC.

Really, in December when Ray Watts announced that UAB was shutting down football the SB Board looked like it was going to cannibalize itself, everyone was fighting and clawing to raise their hands to scream "Pick Me, Pick Me", and yes their where USA fans in the middle too.

They can claim SB.20, the AAC is just CUSA reinvented. But the fact of the matter is: "Every IA conference had at least 1 ranked team during and at the end of the year ranked" except one conference. The Sun Belt, which has never had a ranked school and has only had 3 schools at 3 different times have a school receiving votes.

I can put a million dollars down that if CUSA called JMU tonight and said come play with us, they would have their bags packed and ready to move by tomorrow. It looks as if they have put a call block on the Sun Belt.

As I said earlier they were all about to cannibalize themselves in December and early January just to get the best seat to raise their hand and scream "Pick Me,Pick Me".

I dont want to do it, but if it was decided by CUSA leadership then those 2 I think provide the most upside across all fronts. stAte has had some good success and a unique brand IMHO. I am undecidedon whether GASO or GAState would be better. GAstate would probably help with TV for being in the Atlanta TV market, but GASouth is clearly the stronger program for the moment.

Sorry to interrupt the circle jerk but a quick reality check seems in order. Speaking on behalf of the citizens of a state with the population of four of it's closest neighbors combined and more football championships than all of the recent CUSA adds combined and likely twice as many playoff appearances, we feel pretty good about the Sun Belt and the recent changes in the G5 landscape. Georgia Southern would not accept an invitation from CUSA anytime soon simply due to the cost involved and the significant risk of future declining TV contracts, along with the bloated CUSA membership given the recent change. It is far more likely that CUSA loses one or two at the top of the conference and struggles to replace them, if they must, with similar value as the recent adds have proven to be in the Sun Belt. Georgia State would add a nice TV market , see above, and decent basketball so hopefully CUSA continues to serve the TV contract by taking them first. The quality gap between what remains, your startups, and any adds that the Sun Belt makes as a result of movement, is little to none. This while also putting the Sun Belt in a position to make an immediate impact, while CUSA cellar dwells in the 100 year experiment of buying tv markets. Jumps from the SB will be much less likely as the market hores continue to struggle. Most of you are as delusional as the ODU guy. Seems to me the commissioner sees the writing on the wall. He's brighter than I thought. 04-cheers

Wow this thread has a lot of butt hurt and low self esteem all over it. Continue....No matter how you spin it there's a pecking order (not saying CUSA is an exception because i know any one here would take a P5 invite in a heartbeat) and if you follow the crowd or not entirely depends on whether the moves makes a fiscal sense to your ATH dept or not. That is all.

So everybody's in agreement that this is a bad idea? Great.

I'm pretty happy with the current configuration. There's schools in the SB that I wouldn't mind being in a conference with but non that I feel we need to add. Glad UAB is staying so we don't have to deal with this ****.

TV markets and the advantages of recruiting in state are two separate opportunities. The assumption that you would understand this along with the lack of competing programs, relative to surrounding states, was an oversight on my part. I'll be mindful of your lack of dissemination in the future.

WTF????!!!

Reading the dictionary is easy. Knowing when and how to use a word found in it, not so much.

So I have a lack of "the act of spreading something widely"?

What part of the below example do you not understand about your post?

Examples of DISSEMINATE "Merriam Webster"

He told me that as Commanding General [General David Petraeus] he believes he should not only direct battlefield action but also disseminate a few easy-to-grasp concepts about the war's prosecution, which subordinate officers can then interpret on their own. —Steve Coll, New Yorker, 8 Sept. 2008

I actually like this example better found in http://english.stackexchange.com/

"I thought disseminate means to scatter information widely as if sowing seeds, and propagate means to make members in public accept an idea and be followers. But now I know I was wrong. These two words may be interchangeable, and that rumors are generally said to be spread. Thank you very much for your thorough analysis."

RE: G5 Blogger Proposes Merger between C-USA and Sun Belt
Strictly depending on what it would do to payouts and what is written in the TV contracts, and IF this happens (highly unlikely):

Add Ga Southern, ULL, Ark State, and Ohio (if we can poach them) to get to 18. Play eight division games with zero crossover and then have the championship game. East doesn't go west and west doesn't go east. Saves in travel expenses. So we would have:

Marshall
Ohio
WKU
MTSU
ODU
Charlotte
FAU
FIU
GSU

UAB
NTU
UTSA
Rice
UTEP
La Tech
USM
ASU

I mean, if it were to happen, this might be the most viable option. I dunno? But I'm fine if we add and fine if we don't.

RE: G5 Blogger Proposes Merger between C-USA and Sun Belt

Where should I start with this rambling:

1) You won't have to worry about accepting an invite
2) The SB was the worst conference in IA last year and have been the worst conference in IA most every year since it started playing football in 2001

To this day I see SB posters claim that CUSA schools would jump to the SB. Which is never going to happen. That would be like Alabama deciding to move to the ACC. Yeah 30 years ago in 1985 that may have been a possibility, a slim one but possible none the less. Today, not gonna happen.

Now take your delusions of grandeur that GSU and Appy State are going to build the SB into the best G5 conference back to the SB board where some may believe you.

Add Ga Southern, ULL, Ark State, and Ohio (if we can poach them) to get to 18. Play eight division games with zero crossover and then have the championship game. East doesn't go west and west doesn't go east. Saves in travel expenses. So we would have:

Marshall
Ohio
WKU
MTSU
ODU
Charlotte
FAU
FIU
GSU

UAB
NTU
UTSA
Rice
UTEP
La Tech
USM
ASU
ULL

No No No No No

To me 14 is to many in a conference. Unless you play a round robin schedule without a championship game then 12 should be the magic number.

Going to 16-18-24 is just begging for an airport meeting.

I agree. I'd hate to see Texas State and Georgia State left out though. Texas State brings a lot of the Austin market and Georgia State brings, well, Atlanta. My point being that you wouldn't want to leave out any schools that either deliver a market or that has potential within a market (Georgia State).

The obvious leftovers would be NMSU, Idaho, ULM, and possibly Troy. But I agree with the premise that there doesn't need to be any crossover games and that you can hopefully play everyone in your division, with the conference championship at the end of the year. It would probably exist more of an alliance between two conferences more than one conference with two divisions, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Great Southwest: UTEP, UTSA, Texas State, Rice, North Texas, Arkansas State, Louisiana Tech, ULL, Southern Mississippi, UAB, Alabama State

Eastern Mountains:Ohio, FIU, FAU, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Charlotte, Old Dominion, App State, Marshall, MTSU, WKU

Play a 9-game conference schedule so you'd miss playing only one division member each year.

Why has this not been moved to the realignment board yet?

Hm. I guess they may have forgotten GS and yes 14 is too many.

Just to be clear, you are bashing market size proponents but lead with "my state's population is larger than yours"? 03-lmfao

Quote:dis·sem·i·na·tion
dəˌseməˈnāSH(ə)n/
noun
noun: dissemination; plural noun: disseminations
the act of spreading something, especially information, widely; circulation.
"dissemination of public information"

The sad think is, you have no idea why your statement makes no sense. If you truly believe what you just posted and your previous statement are similar, well ....

Anyway, back to topic. As one CUSA poster already wrote, fans from the belt say they are better and see no benefit from a merger, and CUSA fans also see no benefit from this. Nothing more to discuss.
