Historical Teams Played
I was looking over LU's football schedule since 2000. We haven't played a Florida team or in Florida in that time period. Same goes for Texas. I know this doesn't mean much, but those are some great recruiting states. It seems like we'd schedule a few games in the hotter recruiting states on a regular basis just to get our name out there. Does anyone know if we've ever played a road game in Florida or Texas? I know we have a couple coming up in Texas in the next few seasons. And we've got a home game with Jacksonville coming up.

I don't think there are but one or two FCS schools in Florida. Texas on the other hand has no excuse for no games played there. However, it speaks more to the deficiencies of prior regimes and their priorities. I know Rocco didn't like recruiting nationally and had a pipeline to the northeast, specifically Pennsylvania.

RE: Historical Teams Played
We have games scheduled the next two falls here in Texas (UNT in '16 & Baylor in '17). We have only played one game ever in the Lone Star State and that was back in '93 at Texas State (then called SWT).

We had long series with UCF & USF from the Late '80s up until about 2001.

We traditionally have stayed very regional in non-conference scheduling back in the days when we were on a shoestring budget. Remember that has only been the past ten years or so that we have had the money to travel significantly.

Florida A&M............... Tallahassee
Bethune-Cookman ..... Daytona
Stetson .................... DeLand (north of Orlando)
Jacksonville .............. Jacksonville

Would love an annual CA, TX, FL game (obviously not all on the road).

Jacksonville is coming up to Lynchburg. But they don't have a stadium that we could play in down in Florida.

They have plans to turn the field into an actual stadium down the road ...

Plenty of money to be raised before that happens based on what I have heard.

Nice find. How many of these are HBC? And by Sly's post Jacksonville looks... underfunded which really wouldn't be that attractive to recruits and alumni in my opinion.

FAMU & Bethune-Cookman are both HBCUs that generally battle for the MEAC playoff berth. Stetson is an old Southern Baptist school that is non-scholarship like Jacksonville.

I believe Stetson recently started FB. I have been in Deland the past few months. Very nice campus and facilities. I know Stetson had religious affiliation at one time and thought they had made a split recently. Deland is the county seat for Volusia County (Daytona Beach, etc...) and is a neat, small town just 25 minutes from Daytona.

I wouldn't even care if LU was a "bought" win versus UF, FSU, UM, USF, UCF, FIU or FAU. Surely we could get a game with one of those teams if not an FCS team.

I agree that playing games in Florida & Texas should be a priority whenever possible. But we do have to find someone willing to schedule with us.
