It suggests to me that he has an interest in history and pride in his heritage. Your use of an ethnic slur speaks volumes about your own ignorance and intolerance.

I'm not personally from there but my father's maternal 2nd grandfather served in the 58th. Last name was Hollifield (Scottish) and he was mustered in McDowell County. There's still a lot of Hollifield's out that was as far as I can tell.

Regarding my Sig, my Mother's 2nd grandfather, a Zeigler who fought for the SC 17th, Barnwell Co. Actually there was a whole clan of Zeigler's who fought from that area. I assume there were a lot of angry Germans in SC. 03-lmfao

My direct line (surname) was Wake / Johnston County militia in the Civil War and the American Revolution. All in, there's 4 of my 3rd great grandfathers who fought for the South. The first name of one of them (from the NC 31st) has been passed down a few times. It's dad's first name and my middle name. There are several other uncles in there too. My history in the USA and south specifically is pretty deep.

I also had 4 Rebel great-grandfathers (all Mississippians) who fought for the South. Two of them were killed - only 1 of the 4 ever owned a slave. The current cultural cleansing of the South is comparable to Nazi book-burning and I feel sorry for those who cannot see it.

The problem is that what the public see when they see the Rebel flag is racist rednecks and KKK.

My first impression of that flag was as a 12 year old kid moving to a then rural section of Miami and stepping of my school bus to a pack of people waving that flag and calling me and others spics and nigs

So in large part it's those that allowed those people to use those symbols and not speak out against them that has created the backlash on it.

The SCV has spoken out on those idiots plenty of times recently and the past. Funny how nobody says **** about this.

Southerners (and our flags in particular) have become nothing but convinient scapegoats for racism in American. Same song, different verse.

You can keep showing that old picture over and over and won't mean I think to those of us who had personal attacks directed at us by groups waving the rebel flag in our lifetime.

My history in the USA and south specifically is pretty deep.

My Dad since retiring from the Air Force has spent a ton of time on our family geneology. It started in Jamestown in 1639 where our first family member hit the shores of America. Most of our ancestors either stayed in VA going up to around Richmond VA and a lot made it down to Eastern NC to farm there. We have a lot of ancestors who fought in the Civil War and going back to American Revolution. Crazy thing about living in Hilton Head is my Great-Great Grandfather from Pitt County was captured at Battery Wagner from the Glory Movie and was processed as a prisoner of war on Hilton Head. He was taken over to Savannah and then had to walk back home to Pitt County.
Kind of scary when you look at your blood lines in the South because if your family has been here forever then you are practically related to everybody along the line. We have cousins all over the place to SC Governor Rutledge who signed the Declaration of Independence to the founder of the University of Tennessee being a cousin.

When I was fighting to get in state tuition at ECU since I was a Air Force brat and moved all over, my Grandmother came into the Admisison office at ECU during my appeal for being denied in state tuition and informed the Chair of the Dept that our family had been paying taxes in Pitt County for over 300yrs and they damn sure should give her Grandson in state tuition 04-cheers As much as I love ECU, I would not walk across the street to piss on some of those folks who were in the Admission office at the time who made my life a hell trying to get in state tuitionn despite being born in NC and supposedly protected as a Air Force brat to be able to establish residency wherever I choose as an adult which in this case was to go back home to NC and go to college at ECU.

Not generalizations my friend but plenty of personal experiences. If you don't want to admit that that flag has been used and continues to be used by racists that's your call.

ShoreBuc You're related to my best friend. He's also a descendent of Edward Rutledge.

My direct paternal line was one of the first to arrive at Jamestown. He came on one of the Susan Constant, Godspeed or Discovery. I saw the passenger list once. I need to dig it back up.

"That" flag was hijacked by morons. Again, we've been a scapegoat. Funny how few gaf about my Cherokee ancestors getting driven out under another flag. Point being, history is written by the victors.

I understand you and others wanting to use that flag as a reflection of your heritage and that's fine by me, but you also need to understand how I and other Americans have a completely different experience and feeling regarding that flag.
Because of my experiences if I moved to your neighborhood and saw that flag waving from your porch my first reaction wouldn't be, oh he is showing his southern heritage pride

If your state hadn't supported slavery and openly sold them on the steps of your courthouse, while using that flag during battle to protect your "right" to sell other humans, then I could possibly support your case... Unfortunately I am a certified History teacher and know that this line of bull**** argument is incorrect.

This flag wasn't hijacked at all. It was actively used during the civil war, by your state in part to keep the right to sell humans. Defend that and when you cant admit that its a symbol of racism and have th decency to remove it because it ******* offensive to all who came from those that were captured, sold and murdered buy those within your state.

It wasnt just the KKK that used it. So your argument is false.
