Rutgers raises record $187.9M from donors
http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2015/08...onors.html

Quote:After years of lackluster fundraising, Rutgers University says it is bringing in more money from donors than ever before.

The state university today said it raised a record $187.9 million during the 2014-15 academic year—nearly 30 percent more than last year's record $148.4 million in donations.

Rutgers president Robert Barchi said the level of giving reflected donors' enthusiasm for the university's comprehensive strategic plan.

"Thanks to the growing generosity of our donors, Rutgers University has greater resources to support our outstanding students, groundbreaking faculty research and new classrooms, labs and other world-class facilities," said Barchi.

The money came through the school's most ambitious fundraising campaign in history—a $1 billion multi-year drive that ended in January, bringing in more than $400 million for faculty and research and more than $300 million in new endowment funds, along with $100 million for athletics as Rutgers began play in the Big Ten Conference.

I'm almost sure schools outside the Big Ten are watching the developments.

Good deal - B1G membership has to have helped some in that regard.

Ahhhh

Membership has it's privledges

When the B10 goes to 16, any program considering the B10 and another conference has to take the Rutgers experience into consideration.

With that windfall, Rutgers should be able to add more sports

I would hope they'd strengthen the sports they have first any replace the RAC before adding new sports. Fully fund everything and give the current sports what they need to compete at the highest level, then add slowly.

Donations jumped from $148m to $187m year over year and next year's goal is only $190m? The bar should be set at least at $195-$200m.

We won't be adding any new sports unless we receive a massive sport specific donation for something like hockey. In no particular order; we need to pay off the football stadium expansion, fully fund the athletic department without the massive student fees and build a new arena.

I know plenty of people who are still burned over the way Barchi has acted toward athletics, especially the Pernetti affair. Old grudges die hard, but I think donors will return as long as AD Julie Hermann doesn't have any more gaffes and Barchi slides into the background before leaving in a couple of years. B1G success would ameliorate many wounds, too.

I agree there's no way Rutgers adds sports before getting the current house in order. I would love a hockey team, but I don't have $100 million in oil money lying around.
