Flames Fan Fest
Okay, the wife was in Pennsylvania visiting her mom this past weekend. I was alone and it was very quiet. So, I listened to the Flames radio broadcast of Saturday's Flames Fan Fest while watching the Pirates on MLB.tv. If only I had a man cave. A cushy recliner was the next best thing. Now to nuggets I picked up from the broadcast.

A note on the broadcast. York said they were located in a site where they were unable to see the field and they relied upon on field reporting from Jamie Hall. That was awkward and it would seem to have been better for the radio guys to see the field. They could have amped the energy of select plays rather than "what's happening on the field Jamie". No juice.

Best part of the broadcast were the player interviews at the end. One point said by most all was the increase in athleticism and increase in speed. Many players stated that again and again.

When Woodrum was asked who was going to replace Gabe Henderson in catching those 3rd down passes, he answered that he expected the offense to throw more down the field rather than the many 5+ short yard passes that Henderson caught last year. We'll see if the play calling agrees with Woodrum in game time.

And Lunsford said Gill allowed him to try a 70 yarder in game condition practice. What a weapon LU has if he can continue to improve his consistency, especially in the short kicks 30-40 range (short?). And I do have life.

I wasn't able to listen so the notes are appreciated.

It is my understanding that Lunsford has been hitting some 70-yarders in kicking drills. It is cool that Coach Gill would let him even attempt it against a rush.

A late attempt long field goal could be the difference in making the playoffs or a last second victory or defeat. Good he is able to at least attempt it in a live action environment.
