Pre Game Report - TU v NM
First road game which is always a change for a young team, but we aren't "that" young.

A little about NM.

1. They won against Miss Valley St 66-0 in week one. Not a surprise since MVS was only a two win team (2-9) in the FCS (I-AA) division last year after giving up a lot of points in their defeats (62/47/52/42/20/52/24/38/44). So playing a MWC team on the road, was an obvious mismatch.

2. Coach Bob Davie is 60 years old and coached Notre Dame between 1997-2001. He was replaced by George O'Leary (UCF) who had the "resume" scandal and withdrew - if you remember.

3. Under BD, NM has gone 12-26 since 2012 and 4-20 in the MWC.

4. Everything I gather, he is a run first, pass second coach.

5. Last year, NM (4-8) gave up 58 to CSU, 58 to Arizona St and 60 to Boise St. Of their four wins, they won two by 3 pts, one by 6 and one by 12. So when they won it was by a little, but when they lost, it was sometimes by a lot.

6. NM hosts the NM Bowl, but hasn't been in any bowl since 2007.

7. NM is picked to finish 5th in the 6 team (Mountain division) of MWC (Phil Steele).

8. NM averaged 21,937 (2014) in their 39,000 seat stadium - over 17,000 empties.

That was purely a Money Body-Bag game for Miss Valley St. You have to hope they didn't get anyone hurt. They never had a chance.

Yes, I caught some of that game with Southern, and MVS isn't just bad, they're terrible. Southern was a below average I-AA team at best and still beat MVS 50-13. So MVS is now 0-2 and averaging 6.5 pts and has given up 116 total points in two games (58 point average).

How bad would we have beaten a team like MVS with our fast paced offense? TBH, I think we looked more competitive than OSU was with Central Michigan. Neither tackled well BTW.
