Game Two: West Virginia Thread
Today marks the second game of the season! The Liberty Flames travel to Morgantown, WV to take on the Mountaineers. Game time is 3:00 so get your predictions in.
As for my thoughts, I predict Liberty starts with the ball, goes the length of the field for a touchdown which scares WVU into bringing their A game the rest of the way. A couple poor throws by Woodrum gives the ball to WVU with some short fields that they take advantage of and WVU wins comfortably 35 - 17.

I would love to be wrong, but I'm thinking 48-17.

Louisville got beat by Houston, so that makes me smile.

Nice try team. One day we will be on the same level as West Virginia but today was not that day. Regroup for a big game next week.

Some good things in this game, but we left allot of points on the field. 3 missed fg's hurt. I guessed 48-17, so still better than I expected.

WVU is a very good team, the best we've played since I've been following the Flames. They will knock off some big names this year.

WVU is a good team. We showed signs of life as opposed to Georgia Southern but moral victories are not acceptable.

It's a different game if we capitalize when it mattered, ie., missing 3 FG's. Overall, I didn't think we did too bad considering who we were playing. Unfortunately, big game jitters against top level talent and caliber is to be expected. Although moral victories mean nothing, we did play them better than GA So. and hadn't been beat like that in a while. Oh well, onto the Grizz!

Quote:1. Woodrum 149+ QB rating
2. Only four penalties
3. Zero turnovers
4. We weren't sacked at all
5. The OL played very good overall
6. DL was pretty good
7, Secondary played much better this week.
8. Good game plan
9. Receivers caught the ball well.
10. Only one fumble and we retained possession.
Overall, not a bad showing. There are a lot of positives to build on. If we play with the same intensity we played with today, I can see us being very solid against Montana.

Those are some good positives but it's hard to believe we had that many things go right and we still lose 41-17.

RE: Game Two: West Virginia Thread
cpl points have not been mentioned
I feel WVU won the battle of field position.
3/12 on third down vs 8/13 for them
why did it take Petey getting dinged up before they really were forced to have to find other WR's to contribute. Makes you one dimensional
I feel they tackled better than we did.
they had no sacks but I feel we settled for the check downs to back to much
way to many drops again

RE: Game Two: West Virginia Thread
I had to travel over the weekend and only caught the second half. WVU simply has more and better athletes. Their speed, especially along the defensive line and linebacker position was noticeable. It appeared the dbacks for LU played farther off the wide receivers than other teams. Again speed. I remember when Gill was hired, and he has mentioned in each recruiting year review, the increase in speed he desires in his players. WVU simply played at a faster pace reacting to plays. And they are a very good FBS team. Let's hope they win lots of games and have a great record as that will only help LU in the end.
LU was able to move the ball on the ground at times which is very impressive considering the strong defense of WVU. And to not allow any QB sacks. Again another good stat. Considering the best SBC team (GaSo) lost by 44-0 to WVU and LU scored 17 and muffed several more (missed FGs) scoring opportunities while allowing 41, shows LU played a better game than GaSo.
With Montana having an off week before coming to town, let's hope next Saturday is a big victory as many FCS eyes will be watching.
