(OT) Any of you Sling customers?
If so....

(1) Do you like it?

(2) Does it get you access to WatchESPN?

(3) What does it really cost after taxes/fees?

Not a Sling customer but a Dish customer so I'm knowledgeable about it.

1) High traffic has caused some blackouts (AMC with FTWD premiere, etc) but has been solid. Only one stream per account though unless they changed it so keep that in mind.

2) Yes and ESPN3.

3) Not sure.

If you just want to switch to Dish I can save you some money with a referral code :)

Don't have it but I've done a lot of research on it. Probably will get it soon, once basketball season starts.

Basic Sling TV ($20 / mo) gets you access to ESPN and ESPN2 through a Sling App. Also, in WatchESPN you'll get access to any ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN3.

Add another $5 / month and you get additional sports channels through the Sling App. THat would add ESPNU, ESPNNews, SEC Network and a couple of others I believe. You'd then be able to access these via WatchESPN also. The ONLY Problem is that it doesn't offer CBS College Sports so you'd miss any of those games.

Pretty good deal out right now for a free Roku Stick or 1/2 price Roku 3.

I wonder if there will be a roku with a DVR in it at some point.

I'm a Sling customer.
I also like it and get Watch ESPN.
I have only the $20 package (which had ESPN/ESPN2). Total cost $21.64

They also provide a free Roku stick if prepay 3 months in advance. You can get other Roku items for a discount.

I am able to have the Sling app on the tablets also to watch TV.

The caveat is, you can only have 1 device using Sling at a time per account.

There's really no point. Hulu, Netflix, Amazon, even WatchESPN does the job for you. Obviously you don't need a membership to all of them but if there are certain "must watch" shows or movies that would cover it for you. Also, I THINK that they make some kind of device you can use to record off the Roku but don't quote me on that.

Maybe it has changed, but when it first launched you got WatchESPN, but you did NOT get ESPN3 feeds. Only the ESPN stations that were included with your subscription. With basic subscription this is ESPN and ESPN2. With the sports package you get all the ESPN channels (but still no ESPN3) and SEC Network I think.

I already get the espn3 stuff through my ISP (AT&T).

Got it. Like it. I pay $25 for the sports package. It gets me access to everything on watch espn. I haven't been hit with any crazy fees.

So you STILL PAY... someone... is paying someone else versus paying the satellite/cable company a psychological thing?

The cheapest Time Warner Cable package that includes ESPN in my area costs about $80/month.

Sling is $20/month plus $5 for the sports package.

I highly recommend it. The picture quality has been really good and reliable.

Tell me that is bundled with the internet you use?

I have Sling with the Sports package...about $27 a month (includes tax).

Yes you receive full WatchESPN with a caveat. Expect some games to be Blacked Out (ACC RSN games along the east coast)...but with ESPN3 you can always watch the replay.

It really works well if you are a long distance out of market fan and not subject to the Blackouts. I expect to get an IP location spoofer next year after I move to FL.

My internet costs about 50 a month, and the cable an additional 70... My kids watch the Disney channel and I watch sports channels. Everything my wife watches is on OTA networks like ABC. So if I can get sling with the sports channels, it sounds like I can drop that 70 to around 27... And only miss out on the CBSSN and FSN stuff.

Sling TV is a streaming service and a roku is a piece of hardware used to stream internet stuff on your TV. So you need a roku or similar device if you want to watch Sling programming on your tv rather than your computer.

Think of a Roku device as what used to be a blue ray DVD player that has an ethernet port. It does not play DVDs though.
