Seriously, I love that this ODU-App series is happening, and the Marshall and UNCC series as well. Good for college football in the Southeast to have good regional OOC rivalries outside the SEC/ACC monopoly. Here to more SBC-CUSA games in the Southeast!

Don't believe I'd told that one! 05-nono Looks like we're going to have to put you through a cleansing.

If you're Appy and you know it....

Congrats on kicking our ass guys and good luck the rest of the season. I'm still holding out some hope for the rest of the season but we've obviously hot a lot of work to do. Hopefully we bring a more competitive team to Boone next year.

Speaking of monikers, perhaps in addition to NODU we can be also be NOOU.

I don't hate "Appy" if coming from one of our own, though it is still not my favorite. A fellow Mountaineer has earned the right to use whichever word he likes I guess, and it is not like I am the moniker police.

Legends used to be H'Appys, but then again that is past tense for a reason.

It is beyond me how so many of these folks can get so uptight about their accronyms and nicknames? How is Appy, MTSU, UNCC, or Laffy that bad? We are called Old Dirty and we've embraced it. If you do that, folks can't use it against you.

By the way, congrats Appy. Good luck the rest of the way. I'll see you in Boone next year.

There is only 1 Dirt McGirt! We have truly lost the greatest artist of our times. RIP ODB.

I'm a huge App fan, but I have never understood why a lot of our fans are so sensitive to being referred to as Appy, its not a big deal to me, but, it is what it is.

I watched that game on TV last week. I was at a loss for words at how well Appalachian State played. I was expecting a shootout between both teams. Hope ODU bounces back next week. I tip my UAB cap to the Mountaineers, as well.

No shootout, practice reports preseason were telling me the defense had solidified, I was more worried about the offense tbh

I've been to all 3 App games. Score of the Clemson game not indicative of how well the D played. Three short fields and a pick 6 led to 24 points. They hit us for two more bombs. Other than about 5-6 plays we more than held our own. Been watching App Football for 40 years. Have been to all games vs 1-A / FBS teams over that time. This Clemson bunch was the best I've seen us take the field against. I couldn't be happier with where our football program is right now.

A little background might be helpful.

Back in the day ASU was occasionally referred to as Happy Appy. The administration and most, not all, App fans viewed it as a derogatory term. At the 1982 SoCon Football Media Day new SoCon member Marshall head coach Sonny Randall, who coached ECU against App in 1973 & 74 and took every opportunity to goad the Mountaineers, used Appy to poke fun at our school. Our school was not amused. Our SID made the HUGE mistake of letting the new kid on the block know that was not a proper reference to ASU and the university viewed it as a derogatory manner. As you can imagine all that did was open the flood gates. It went viral after this same SID sent a letter to the SoCon Commish asking him to tell member schools to refrain from using the term. Although Appy was no longer used by officials from any conference school, is became far more endearing to fans, especially from UTC and ETSU. That's why so many of us dispise it. Other than some older Marshall fans, I doubt anyone has even the slightest idea App Fans view it as derogatory or uses it to demean Appalachian.

Interesting. I've used "Appy" before and never had any idea it was annoying to App State fans (and I'm a fellow Belter). Gotchya... no more Appy from this guy.

And that was the original intent of my post some pages back in this thread. For those that care now you know. For those that don't care, it will not stop you of course.
