And that is just for the UL part of the 'argument'.....for the part about using 'Louisiana' as our band, the ULS Prsudent herself responded to a letter from these idiotic bufoons saying, uncategorically that there is nothing in the 'law' probiting using that as our brand. Of course, people like old stodgy never let these FACTS get in the way of thier hysteria-based hatred.

I know this is now in the smack folder, and that's a good thing since we never could get to talking "football". Just for fun, I'll play devil's advocate. If I was an alum of any other state school in Louisiana, I'd probably take issue with the name deal too. Let's face it, this "law" was written to protect LSU first and foremost from any other school in the state growing in prominence outside it's own backyard. They don't now, and never had wanted any competition from other schools within the state. So this "@ city" tag was meant to keep us all in our places. That said, the "athletic branding" is legal. Sure, it might be due to a loop-hole in the way the law is written; but that's what good lawyers find (arguable that we really have those or we may have been able to fight the reversal back in 1984)! Anyway, is it unethical? Unscrupulous? Maybe, but it is legal. Whether it EVER succeeds in mainstream conversation is to be seen. Probably not before I kick the bucket!

I cannot really blame yall for the nervous hate. tech has reached its ceiling as a university and athletic program. UL has woken up and accomplished in the last 5 years what took tech about 50. Imagine where we will be in another 5. And that game tomorrow, win or lose will be pretty insignificant in the grand scheme. That being said, I cant wait to stomp a mudhole in your team and then get out of that fishstick and creosote smelling pit.
Speaking of Louisiana, it is perfectly legal to use Louisiana as our athletic nickname. All official university business is done as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. IF Louisiana as an athletic nickname were illegal Louisiana State Agricultural and Mechanical University at BAton Rouge couldn't use LSU and Lolly Polly would have to go by LATUR.
