I think you'll find most of us rarely delve into threads like this. We often get accused of things other people say about us later, but it's not Herd fans. There are, of course, 42 exceptions to that rule.

I expect this game will be more like our traditional matchups of our early CUSA arrival which ended up as OT games or last second wins/losses. Our D and your O match up well and vice versa. Could be a low scoring defensive type game. If it's a shootout then we probably lose as we'll run out of ammo pretty quickly.

how?

when we run our offense at full throttle, it's pretty difficult to stop....Mullens has been pretty solid so far....we dropped a few tonight, but overall our offense is pretty strong...

I'm not seeing much out of your offense, but our bend-don't break D is due to give up points on the road...

having said that, it's not beyond the realm of possibilities that we gear down and run something similar to the 1st half against NEB....

to your point, I'm begging for a fast paced shootout and agree we have the advantage if that happens....

should be a fun game to watch....

When our D is running full throttle they are very hard to score on. Is why I said they match up well. They've kept us in games that we should have lost or did lose. And I'm including the punting team in this.

how often do you guys blitz?

I guess the better question is the blitz part of the standard package or is it situational? my concern with Mullens is his ability to handle the blitz....

good point about punting....that can play large in a low scoring affair....

also, our fg kicker hasn't had the greatest of starts this year.....that's an issue for us...

it's going to interesting to see how our offensive strategy plays out early....

It's situational, but we usually have a pretty stout pass rush as our secondary locks down receivers. Lots of hurries and lots of sacks/TFL. We are vulnerable to the big play, while containing, and forcing your QB out. But we swarm to the ball pretty well. I do want to see what they do against a team that is recognized for high output O. Anyways, welcome back Southern Miss. I respect LaTech, but Rice seems to have taken a step back and I want the old guard at the top of each division. We are the only old guard in the east.

I don't think we will blow usm out, but I think it's a comfortable 17 point win. Maybe it's a 10 point game late and we add a td. Something like 38-21 Herd win. If DJ is healthy then look for him to make up for lost time.

If Rockhead plays and is 100% then I give the edge to MU. If not it's a toss up even being played in WV. I want our last game of the season to matter so go USM. WKU is going to walk through the east and Tech wants a rematch.

If DJ and Clint Van Horn are healthy, DJ and Tony Pittman will both run wild. I would say 200-300 rushing yards. Combine that with Litton passing for 250+ and facing the best defense you have faced this year and it will be a long night for usm.

is the crust still in your eyes son? that's a lotta ifs....you really don't think we'll stack it and force your qb to beat us? I've watched them both....if I'm Monk, that's what I am hammering into our DC

how are you guys going to prepare for Ito and what his presence will introduce to opening up the other facets of our O? that's gonna be fun to watch evolve....

you guys better hope your D front can shut down Mullens....his decision making has matured well....

I'm chompin' on a bit for friday....

It'll be close going into the 4th but the eagles will pull away late. USM wins 38-27.

There seems to be a lot of confidence that you will come to Huntington and win. Last time you were good we beat you in Huntington. Your biggest win this year is over a below average Texas State. Yes while we haven't really beaten anyone of note either we did beat a Big Ten team and an average Kent St on the road.

Slightly overconfident for a program that has won 7 games in three and half years.

What I am trying to say is when you came to Huntington with one of your best teams ever, we still beat you and we were a 6-6 team.

As for Kent, I don't expect anyone south of Kentucky to ever give a MAC team any respect and that is fine.

And as for a QB issue, well he is 3-0 as a starter so I'll take that.

The Eagles will face a huge challenge at Marshall. Lots of respect for the Herd and Doc. It is just nice to be in the discussion now. This USM team is banged up, but those playing play with a lot of heart and desire to win. Seeing that out of a USM team again is its own reward. Hopefully this will be a great game, injury free and a return to some classic Herd/Eagle battles.
