RE: OT: MLB Playoff Predictions
If the money is close, he'd be a fool to take an offer from Miami or San Diego over NYM. From a baseball perspective, I'm not sure what would be compelling for San Diego.

For sure same money or close he's going back to NYM, he'd be silly not too.

The # of years was far more important than the dollars for both the Mets and Cespedes. The Mets didn't want to commit to a 30 year old OF beyond 2018, while Cespedes wanted to ride this new contract out for the remainder of his career. Cuddyer's retirement opened up enough dollars to make a deal possible IF Ces was willing to cap it at 3 years.
3 years max puts the Mets on equal ground with other teams. He'll get good coin, a chance to win a title, and get worshipped in a city that contains about 150,000 Cuban-American citizens. Not a bad deal. Lots of teams are still in the running, yes, and maybe one blows him away with too much money to turn down. But he wants to be in NYC, and that matters too.
^^^^ Called this sh*t.

You didn't call the opt out. That's likely what give them the upper hand

Smarter people than I mentioned an opt out after 2 years. No one could have anticipated the possibility the Mets would give Ces the option of walking after 1 and taking $27.5M with him. But I'm perfectly happy with that. Keeps him motivated to match last year's productivity.

I agree it's a good deal for the Mets. Only Danger is he falls on his face. Even that though his career numbers .260 25-30hr is not bad I'd take. I like it. I wish the Yankees would do something

Well I mean... Y'all took Starlin Castro and his inconsistency off our hands. So thanks for that, and good luck. Am I right Bricks?

If he has a bad year then he'll stick around 2 more years. I sincerely doubt he'd have THREE straight bad years.

True. His floor is high, and certainly it will help the guys ahead of him see better pitches just by having him in the lineup.

Even more good news: If Cespedes opts out AND declines a qualifying offer, the Mets get a compensatory 1st round pick.
Ces walks, Mets will have back to back years of 2 first round picks (they have 2 this year due to Murphy signing in Washington). Ces elects to
stick around, we get him for 2 more years. Win-Win.
