Comments:

1) third CCG in a row pitting BG vs NIU. And NIU's sixth straight appearance.

2) Toledo should've been the East representative in the game. Makes no sense that Toledo is in the West.

3) BG head coach Dino Babers has been hired by Syracuse

4) Making the case for Bowling Green to be the G5 representative:

- 10-3 overall record, 7-1 MAC record (best conf record)
- Only conf loss to (rival) Toledo
- Non-conf: beat Maryland and Purdue (both on the road), last-second loss to Memphis (on the road) and decent loss to Tennessee (on the road)

I think with their head coach hired away they won't be the same team. It's a tried and true situation.

Western Kentucky wins the CUSA CCG at home, 45-28 over Southern Miss.

Comments:

1) Making the case for Western Kentucky to be the G5 representative:

- 11-2 overall record, 8-0 CUSA record (best conf record)
- Non-conf: lost close to Indiana and decent to LSU (both on the road), beat Vanderbilt on the road and Miami OH at home.

There isn't a case to be made. Houston is going and it isn't even close.

Arkansas State takes fourth Sun Belt title in five years, and I'll watch Houston play in the Access game.

If you don't lose your Qb with a halftime lead over Mizzou and had him back for Toledo game...imagine the conversation!

wouldn't have mattered. Houston had due to the AAC a much better SOS. 7 bowl opponents this year. Arkansas St had all of 5. Also frankly, the CCG would have if it had been close given it to Houston.

Updated the OP again. No point, I know.

Houston has it, I'm sure. I was going to do a "making the case..." post for each G5, just for fun. But I'm out of time today and they'll probably announce it formally by the time I get back. Oh well.

I had fun tracking this, this season. Thanks to all who contributed to this thread. I think it can be closed, now. Unless someone wants to make an "Houston officially gets the G5 slot" post.

RE: G5 Access slot standings
One last post, on bowls.

*G5 Access Slot*
- #18 Houston vs #9 Florida St, Peach Bowl, New Year's Eve

*Others*
- #21 Navy vs Pitt, Military Bowl, Dec 28

- Ark St vs LA Tech, New Orleans Bowl, Dec 19
- W Kentucky vs South Florida, Miami Beach Bowl, Dec 21
- #24 Temple vs Toledo, Boca Raton Bowl, Dec 22
- Bowling Green vs Georgia Southern, GoDaddy Bowl, Dec 23
- Northern Illinois vs Boise St, Poinsettia Bowl, Dec 23
- San Diego St vs Cincinnati, Hawaii Bowl, Dec 24

Navy's bowl isn't too bad, and one of the few G5 vs P5 matchups.

But for the rest ... it really does not pay to be a "good" G5 team!!

Until the G5 sit down and cooperate on a solution, it is going to suck to be a G5 champ missing access.

Maybe next bowl cycle will be better.

Why do that? Way more fun to cut the legs out from under each other and whore yourself out trying to impress the P5...

It would be nice if a few of the G5 v G5 bowls could be convinced to "tie-in" with #2 G5 vs #3 G5, etc. Not a playoff, just a pairing.
