Pat Narduzzi tweaks Penn State
Asked about the development of Nate Petermen, Narduzzi talked about coaching the kid up. When a followup question about how much coaching matters, Narduzzi said, "You could have a talented quarterback with a bad play caller and make him look bad. You see that around the country, some closer than others."

It has hit the national media. When asked about the intent of the comment, Pitt's communication director tweeted this:

.@PittBorghetti on Pat Narduzzi’s QB quote: “People can draw their own conclusions as to whom the shoe best fits"

Narduzzi isn't taking any crap from Franklin. Franklin frequently calls into Pitt's flagship radio station as "James from State College" during Pitt segments to try to change the subject to Penn State.

Love the attitude this coach brings.

I enjoy seeing comments such as this from Narduzzi, even if they aren't PC.

As for Franklin, am I understanding you correctly that Franklin himself frequently calls a Pittsburgh radio station to try and prank them? If I was a PSU fan I *might* find that funny once. After that, I'd be wondering if he could find a better use of time considering the two teams PSU has played this year that have a pulse both drilled them.

Franklin doesn't necessarily try to prank 93.7 The Fan. He just calls in and pretends to be a fan just to pimp PSU.

To be fair, he only does it when he is in Western PA recruiting. But he still does it. To be sure, Narduzzi is turning up the heat on the recruiting battles.

It is what it is. Both coaching staff's take subtle shots at each other on Twitter. PSU runs with the DominateTheState hashtag. It can be entertaining. Shitz going to be wild leading up to the game next fall.

I agree... One of my least favorite coaches.

+2 if my feelings weren't already made clear above. From what Shannon says, I'm guessing he's riding around in his car listening to local sports talk radio while recruiting in Western PA, but I still find that strange public behavior for a head coach.

I've heard it. It was weird. I was under the impression he did it once, though, not multiple times. Still weird.

As for what Narduzzi said, I like it because I'm a Pitt fan and a homer. If it was somebody else, I'd probably not feel the same way. I usually think Franklin is stupid when he runs his mouth.

I'm not a Pitt homer, but I'm a fan of Narduzzi. I thought he was a great hire. Now let's see how long you keep him.

I think we will keep him for a long time - provided he's a good to great coach. He grew up in Youngstown and he professes that coaching in Pittsburgh is basically like him coming home. The distance between both cities is 66.6 miles.

Someone need to either add or subtract a tenth of a mile from that distance.

I hope he stays at Pitt for the long haul. If he continues to do well, I can see some larger programs throwing a little cash his way.

We have a new administration that is willing to spend money. Narduzzi was quoted as saying what made Pitt attractive was we were willing to give him the resources to hire a staff that will allow him to be successful.

To followup on what Joey said:

There's also the 107k and unrivaled hashtags as well as some back and forth between between assistant coaches John Peterson of Pitt and PSU's Herb Hand this summer on twitter.

Can't wait for Penn Staters to complain about all of the the press Pitt has been getting lately in Pittsburgh.

Well, Pitt won't face Temple during the regular season (and not likely in a bowl either), but they will have a common opponent soon - Notre Dame (both at home, too).

RE: Pat Narduzzi tweaks Penn State
I can't believe that is true about Franklin. That is insane behavior for a coach. I don't know if he's trying to be funny, or show that he's wild, but that comes off incredibly small time.

No offense to Pitt, but if I'm Penn State's coach, I'm (publicly) acting like they don't exist, not doing something so odd as that to validate them. Just bizarre.

I love Narduzzi's comment, the ACC could afford to be a bit more salty. If Narduzzi is the real deal, he may have a pretty good window of opportunity, for as good a recruiter as Franklin is, I don't think he has distinguished himself much as a coach. As "historic" as his "success" at Vandy was, his record was almost entirely built on beating terrible teams, and is largely smoke and mirrors. There's always the "but it's Vandy!" argument, and he certainly improved them, but I'm not so sure he's not over his head at Penn State.
