Just for wkuyg as not to annoy others
Hey buddy, couldn't help but notice in another thread you prematurely bragging that wku would win a championship in your 2nd year of CUSA, something it took Marshall 10 years to do.
First, let's compare apples to apples.
Wku moved up to FBS in 2009, so this is your 7th year of playing at this level. Let's assume you do beat USM, what will be the sum total of your accomplishments in those 7 years?
You will have an overall record of 43-44. Heck, I'll give you credit for winning a bowl game prematurely too and call it 44-44.
You will have gone to three bowl games, giving you that win you will be 2-1 in bowls.
You will have one division and one conference championship.
Giving credit for those two premature wins, you should end up ranked for the first time.
Let's now look at Marshall's first 7 years in FBS beginning with our move up in 1997.
We had an overall record of 73-17.
We went to 6 bowl games going 5-1 and we didn't play Central Michigan. We played Mississippi St, BYU (ranked), Louisville twice, Cincinnati and ECU. The loss was to Miss St 34-31. Oh, and the conference only had one bowl tie in our first 5 years.
We had 6 division championships and 5 conference championships.
We finished ranked in the Top 25 on three occasions with a high of 10th.
We had 5 double digit win seasons in our first 7 years including a perfect 13-0 season in 1999 (25-1 over a two year period and 35-4 during our first three years).
So in summary, nothing you accomplish this year will even come close to accomplishing what Marshall did in its transition to the FBS level. So there's some stats (i.e. FACTS) for you.
Oh, and the MAC during that timeframe was markedly better than the current state of CUSA. Besides our two first round QBs during that time you had guys like Roethlesberger (sp) at Miami, Charlie Frye at Akron, Charlie Batch at EMU, Josh Cribbs QBing at Kent State, Bruce Gradkowlski at Toledo. All those guys went to the NFL.
We had wins over Clemson, Big 12 champ, #6 ranked Kansas State, South Carolina, etc.
