Can't win basketball games on layups and fast break points alone. You need good shooters for a complete team.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with your statement, we need shooters who can hit the three as well, but you have to do what the players CAN do and I can only think of two players who can hit the 3 ball I'd trust and neither can do that on a very consisitent basis - game after game - JW and RR. But IMO we set up too much. Again, its a shot clock thing to me. With 5 seconds less allowed on each possession this year, we need to spend as little time as possible getting the ball down the floor. What occurs is we spend about 5 extra seconds (on some possessions) to set up and then when the shot clock winds down, we are forced to hurry and then end up taking a shot we can't make most of the time - a contested three. IMO we'd be better off attempting the fast break and then have a few more seconds to run the offense after that point. Does that make any sense? Hope I'm not confusing anyone!

I think you are over-simplifying the process. Obviously it would be nice to rely more on fast break points and drives to the hoop, but that's just not realistic to think that that could be our main source of offense every game. Other teams have already caught on that we can't shoot well, so they pack the lane. So we don't get as many layups or "fast break points"
If we had more than a couple of guys who we could rely on to hit big shots, the fast break points and layups would go up because it would spread out the defense.

We are in agreement as far as the problems are concerned. But unless FH can recruit good 3 ball shooters similar to some of the players our opponents have, we will be spinning our wheels. A coach has to dance with who brung them. If FH can't recruit a real outside shooter(s) and won't make up for that with a different offensive scheme, we will be mediocre as long as he's here. IMO

From the looks of who Frank has committed, we will definitely step up in terms of level of actual basketball talent.

I certainly hope he can recruit good shooters - and sign them.
