Best Liberty U. Helmet
Well, I was trying to post photos of the historic LU helmets but I couldn't. My intention was to see which helmet everybody preferred, and if you could design your own, how would you improve the LU football helmet look?

Somebody mentioned having Liberty written in script on the helmet like UF has "Gators." I think that might look good. I suppose red hemet, blue letters, white outline. Or, red helmet, white letters, blue outline. Or. white helmet, red letters, blue outline.

I also think an interlocked LU in the fashion of the Auburn "AU" would look nice too.

Having tasteful full flames on the helmet would be good, but I'm not sure how to do that.

I like out current "LU" on the helmet, but am not a fan when you add the "eagle/flame." It looks WAY more like an eagle than a flame, which is contradictory to our name, but compliments the mascot.

Darn, still can't figure out how to do pictures. Was going to do an interlocked LU like the icon on my Flames Nation account.

RE: Best Liberty U. Helmet
I think the best helmet and uniform was the worn during the early Rocco era that were similar to the Denver Bronco uniform and that I use as my avatar. Similarly, back in the mid-90's we had basketball uniforms that were similar to the Phoenix Suns at the time. I also preferred those.

The current football uniform with multiple combinations are pretty darn good. I do think that we should add the Eagle head "LU" to the helmets vs the simple "LU" that is used now.

As far as the age old questions of Flames and Eagles- the Flame is apart of our motto, "Knowledge Aflame," and the eagle is the symbol of Liberty. Just a little FYI.

RE: Best Liberty U. Helmet
I think the current helmet is pretty bad ass. I do miss the red LU letters on a red helmet we used last year but replaced with the flaming red sperm this year. I actually do like the red helmet with the flaming sparky but I hate that logo by itself. I refuse to own anything with that logo. I also don't like any design prior to this recent change in the LU logos. One change I would like is why not make a new design for a helmet and throw it in the rotation. Just use the fighting sparky (the one where he is walking) logo on that helmet its almost never used and I really like it. We can use it every once in a while so it doesn't mess up any LU re-branding strategy.

Most listed on here – unfortunately not the script helmet you were looking for. There is a photo of one but it says flames and not liberty

I like the 2004-2005 helmet best but would update it with our current logo.

I think out of our history of helmets, the current versions are my favorite, though I'm still not satisfied with their look. I'm just being super picky I guess.

I love the sparky mascot logo. I had it on a ball cap at one time. It looks really sharp.

I just hate the way our current "LU" looks. The little "wings" at the top of the L and U looks hideous. And I'm sure I just upset every English graduate/enthusiast because I'm sure there is a proper name for those fins.

I like that it is a cleaner and more recognizable look than the previous helmet decal. The old Liberty Flames with the streaming eagle/fire logo was so hard to read and even see what it was on TV. I agree about the current font. It's a bit weird, but it has grown on me a little. I'd still like a more collegiate block lettering style like the Auburn "AU."

I guess it just took time to adjust, but I like the current LU that is on the football helmet now. It took a while. I thought it looked "cartoonish." But now I think it looks distinct. Now watch, as soon as I have gotten use to it, they will change the whole logo again.

Yep, we use those helmets. I'm not as big a fan of the red eagle/flame helmet as I once was. I like the letters.

RE: Best Liberty U. Helmet
My favorite helmet was the one we had when I arrived as a freshman for the first few games of the '85 season before all of gthe equipment on Treasure Island washed down the James River in the flood. It was metallic silver with red & blue stripes across the middle. The logo on the side was the old school eagle in a circle with multi-colored flames trailing behind it.

If I can find a pic, I will do so. I posted some pics on FlameFans about ten years ago but the hosting company I used is apparently out of business.

For the record, I like the red matte ones we are using now the best of the three current options.

I agree that the white one is the better of the 3 you have.
The red one needs to get an overhaul pretty bad.

It's funny how many different opinions were all have. I live the red matte look. In fact I think it was rated as one if the top 10 college uniforms at one point.

It's that red face mask. That thing is sick

I am pretty monochromatic in my uniform taste. One the road I think we should wear white lids/white jerseys/white pants/white socks/white shoes. At home we should wear red lids/red jerseys/red pants/red socks/red shoes. On special games we should pull out the navy lids/navy jerseys/navy pants/navy socks/navy shoes.

"These are our seven favorite …" I interpret this as being ranked.
Just someone's opinion.
Ugh, Not a fan of these below, each for different reasons.

There is a reason why Ice-cream comes in so many flavors.. everybody has different tastes.

Color mix isn't right. I don't mind orange and green. And I'm also a fan of lighter shades. But in this case swap the colors and I think it would be pretty sharp. A lighter shade of orange on Green background has more pop to me. The helmet needs some work.

[Image: usp_ncaa_football__tulsa_at_colorado_sta...;amp;h=704]

Kentucky has no reason to be wearing black.
Also, chrome helmet for no reason. Chrome is okay IMO for only a few teams. I dig the checker board pattern though.
[Image: usp_ncaa_football__south_carolina_at_ken...;amp;h=711]

The shape of the logo just feels awkward.
Not a fan of the shade of red used for the Matte. Could just be that I only like matte colors in really dark shades. (Maroon, Black, Purple...)
The white helmet with this jersey and pants is great though.
[Image: ap_liberty-richmond_football_67785202.jp...;amp;h=705]

Again, Black for black sake. :(
Boise has a great color combo and they have had some nice uniforms in the past. Keep the black out. Plus.. black and blue is one of my lease favorite combos.
