I hadn't seen the article before. It is quite well written. As a person who witnessed first hand(I was a student at the time) the demise of our athletic department, I place the blame on bad hires.
For football, after Pardee left, we hired Jenkins who kept the high powered offense, but neglected the defense and fired after it was found out that he was splicing naughty images into the game film. Then came Helton, who to the casual observer (as I was during most of his tenure) he was getting the job done. Remember we were football co champs the first C-UsA football season. But behind the scenes he killed our local recruiting by ostracizing local coaches and recruits. After Helton came Dimel who led us to our first 0 fer season ever. I will not bore you with my theories on him, but lets just say he is not held in high regard by me or many of our fans.
For basketball, I place the blame on poor hires as well, but unlike most of our fans, I believe it started during Foster's tenure not after he left. When he was first hired we were making the NCAA tourney still and fielded good teams, the problem was that when he made the tourney, he never won a game. I think this aided us on our basketball slide.
That was an excellent article please feel free to post others.
