How realistic would that be? I mean.... if that came to be...

As far as production and the announcers go asn is far and away better than what we had with the comcast southeast setup. They talk about the game your watching not the upcoming sec games.

We have helped them get established, its time for them to pay for the content.

RE: What if there is no TV contract?
G5 conferences that start building out their own digital networks especially on mobile and set top boxes are going to be ahead of the curve. Personally having seen a few games on ASN I like it. It doesn't feel like your in ESPN's basement corner taking up space. I like that they talk about other league games at halftime instead of trying to sell me on Bama vs. A&M. Frankly at the mid major level you're not getting rich from TV. The main thing you gain is access to sell your program. To me there is zero difference watching a game on CBS vs. on my Roku connected to my TV.

The real key is getting every game available everywhere. Consumers are getting more and more comfortable with watching streaming sources---its just a matter of convenience and reliability. So, the key is having a stable platform that can deliver a reliable quality stream along with spending the money to create Apps for the major streaming devices (Roku, Appletv, FireTV, Chromecast, Android, etc).

I still think that CUSA is going to break some new ground by splitting their digital rights off from their primary broadcast partners. I think they will set it up so ESPN3 can mirror ASN broadcasts or CUSA will hold on to all digital rights and expand their own existing digital network to handle that same task. That should be a no brainer for ASN broadcasts since they pay no rights fees at all. I'd do the same with Fox and CBS-SN. Maybe give Fox and CBS-Sports full streaming rights ONLY for games they actually stream, allowing CUSA Digital Network to mirror the games they choose not to stream.

Ive said for a while that if I was ESPN I'd buy the digital rights for any FBS conference at a premium price. Why not? Its far cheaper than buying the broadcast rights and it allows you to buy a sliver of rights in a fast growing segment of content delivery rather than buying rights in a declining slice of the delivery market. The reality is its more likely digital rights are going to increase in value over the next few years than cable broadcast rights.

Coincidentally the NFL just announced today that they will be streaming Thursday Night Football on Twitter.

Twitter bought at a very low price because they were fine with very little control over advertisements being sold, and according to Re/Code, these streaming rights supplement existing streaming rights held by NBC & CBS (desktops/laptops/tablets) and Verizon (mobile) to the same ten games. Verizon I believe has rights to all 16 games since you can stream NFL Network on their NFL app.

They also may allow these games, from Twitter, to be streamed on Yahoo & Google. I assume those will be done via some form of Twitter branded stream.
