How does that make Charlotte any better then anybody else in this conference? You all seem a bit smug about something that has not happened yet. Dont get me wrong, I am always pulling for Charlotte and do agree that they have huge potential, but lay off the what-ifs.
I don't think the point is that Charlotte was better than other teams in the conference last year. Rather the point is that Charlotte may not be as far away from competing/contending as the record would suggest. And the QB play was unbelievably awful, so even a mediocre QB will likely make a huge difference (last season's 1st or 2nd string QB is playing wide receiver this year). Hopefully they can find one, but maybe that is more of a hurdle than it would seem.

I think the results from last season were poor, but about what should be expected for such a new program. It'll be easier to evaluate how good the job at Charlotte would be once they've had a few recruiting cycles to bring in layers of FBS level kids, which as you know makes so much more of a difference in football than in other sports. My concern is that the fan support may dwindle if the team keeps losing (already saw some of that this year), which further hurts recruiting and fan support by killing the game day atmosphere, before they are able to build a stable depth of players. Multiple things still need to go right for this program to realize its potential.

Completely agree with this, a few cycles of FBS players will have huge impact. Literally, those guys are alot bigger. I was just responding to some of the other comments. 04-cheers

There are posters here that are not happy with our first-year FBS results and think we should not be in this conference. I wonder how many of them are also unhappy with the idea that we could move to the top in a few years? I bet there is a strong correlation. 03-banghead

I think our points are that we were told all last season that we couldn't compete with anyone at the FBS level.

We had leads in the fourth quarter against ODU and UTSA (overtime) and had the ball down a field goal with three minutes left in the game against FAU. We held Rice scoreless in the first half. We were down 10-3 at half to a Temple team who had beaten Penn State the week before.

Our present senior class and half the juniors (last year juniors and sophomores) were recruited to play against Furman and Elon. We redshirted most of the freshman. On paper, all our games (including Ga. State) should have looked like the Middle game. We simply don't have the horses to compete and it showed...a lot.

But as a program, we improved and were not close to being the worst team in the FBS. The program got better and I'll be pleased if they improve in 2017. We still have a lot of FCS players that need to be shed before we can truly compete.

We beat Georgia State too but that isn't really a big deal other than we got our first FBS win in our first FBS game.

Realistically a band of homeless people could have beat either team that night.

Well we are certainly proof you can suck your first 2 or 3 seasons in FBS and turn it around very quickly...

Yeah. Have you read the premise article? I have no idea what ol' dude is trying to posit. And then he has a poll? Is he saying one of those is a good place to coach because it's easy? Because of support? Because of tradition? Because of market? So dumb.

I bet you ODU or UTSA will be next, and the respective fanbases will be all up-in-arms.
