Baseball RPI question/thought
While looking over USM's RPI with us scheduled to play ULL and UNO this midweek (UNO now cancelled due to weather) and 14 total games against Louisiana teams, it got me to looking at Louisiana teams and how impressive as a state that their RPIs are:

13 ULL
17 LSU
32 Tulane
44 UNO
50 Northwestern St
58 SE Louisiana
67 La Tech
76 McNeese St
150 ULM
248 Grambling
293 Southern

I realize some other states (Florida, Texas, North Carolina and Mississippi at first glance) might have more in say the top 25 or 50 but to have over 70% (8 of 11) in the top 100 and over 80% (9 of 11) in the top half (300 baseball teams) is pretty impressive considering there's more than 10 teams.

You forgot Nicholls St at 213. 03-wink

No doubt, LA is strong this year. Texas has 12/21 in the top half, with a couple more right on the cusp. Also, TIL there's such a school as UT-Rio Grande Valley (apparently UT-PA & UT-Brownsville merged last year), and Abilene Christian & Incarnate Word are both D1. Who knew?

Texas schools:
4 A&M
14 TTech
19 TCU
20 Rice
42 Lamar
44 DBU
79 UH
84 SHSU
102 UT-A(ustin)
104 UT-A(rlington)
130 Baylor
140 SFA
---
152 UTSA
157 TxSt
181 HBU
203 Abilene Christian
218 TAMU-CC
270 Incarnate Word
274 UTRGV
289 TSU
297 PVAM

I figured there was a good chance I'd left someone out. Takes my initial thoughts down a notch

I would say one state has shown more depth.

Without looking, which state has these teams in the RPI?

8, 13, 28, 29, 30, 43, 56, 58, 115, 132
----
159, 160, 192, 199, 250, 270, 284, 286

I was also just shocked to realize they had this many D1 teams.

This state also had the most tournament teams in Baseball America's latest projections with two more on the list for next eight out. (edit: Correction: Most in after Florida)

Also have to give a little love to Mississippi with its only three competitive D1 teams each in the Top 20.

Ole Miss (7), Ms State (10) and USM (18) form a nice "FBS" combo but it's the SWAC schools that do us in as they do for most states....Jackson St (286), Alcorn St (290) and Ms Valley St (299). Looking at the SWAC and only 1 school Alabama St (149) is in the the top 200 as the remaining 9 schools are spread out from 250 to 299 with 5 of those being in the last 10 spots

Exactly.

I was shocked there are even that many D1 schools but I forget about the many, many Big South teams.

I probably couldn't name half of them off my head, but I know that NC (like Texas) is always good for a whole regional of its own with several teams to spare.
