Coastal can't get stadium approved
This gets under my skin. Coastal gets the invite and they can't even get approval to upgrade their stadium to FBS standards. Crazy world we live in.

We who have mired in the Big South along with Coastal have known about Coastal's weakness in attendance and support. The bbs group, whose only exposure to Coastal is reading blogs and posts, have supported and endorsed a program that is years behind Liberty in the FBS transition. If LU can only get it's public perception under wraps, refrain from over in-your-face comments and actions, it will look more attractive.

I'm still glad we got Coastal but I do feel bad for y'all. I think the whole perception thing is way overblown. I mean the only exposure I've had to y'all is your online college commercials, which I think hurts yall but thats another topic. I had never heard anything about your president, or anything about your stance on evolution until y'all invaded the Sun Belt board a while back, and I'm a pretty hardcore cfb fan, so I'd assume that most Texans haven't either. Obviously the Sun Belt university presidents really do care about all that, but the common fan is oblivious to it. I think that, like Coastal, y'all would make a great addition.

This might sound silly but the only negative to me on y'all is that your name doesn't indicate which state you're in, I know that would sound funny though and that most private schools don't do that. Then I'd have to explain who we're playing and where y'all are from whenever I'd have to answer the question "Who are y'all playing today?". Guess I'm lazy! Anyway best of luck to y'all! 04-cheers

In 5 years, Liberty's denial from the SBC will be seen as a blessing.

RE: Coastal can't get stadium approved
The Coastal people keep saying they have the money but can't build because of politics but if they had the money then why aren't they building the stadium? Don't they need the approval because they don't have the money and would need to borrow it?

Another interesting development is the GA board of regents set some requirements of how much student fees can go towards athletic budgets. Ga state will have to cut $700,000 from their budget. CCU has to get approval to issue bonds. They have very little private donations and this have been turned down. Their fans will say it's politics, but if they had even a few million dollars raised or coming from the private side the stadium expansion would be approved.

I love it!

Liberty deserves a FBS bid. Pure and simple.

RE: Coastal can't get stadium approved
Honestly guys, I would love for Liberty to join the SBC party. I think you bring a lot to the table. I was just there this weekend as my wife graduated with her second degree from LU and was blown away with how the campus is shaping up. I'll probably end up going for a MAT there in a few years so you'll add one more fan.

In regards to CCU's problem, it is mostly political. The CHE wants more proof of private donations but isn't giving hard info on what they want. So it's like "y'all need more money" "okay we've got one million more" "nope not enough" "how much do we need?" "Idk". Lol

I have one question, how does the Liberty Online Academy work for high school students? Is there a tuition discount for graduates for on campus after they graduate? My wife's family is thinking of sending her younger sister there for the final two years.

Thanks

EWG, about the political factor you mention, is it internal or from the So. Carolina and Clemson factions?

Well since the issue with SC State financial woes, the state has developed this board. (My understanding) they are now trying to make a statement that they will not just approve what ever is submitted to them. Some believe it's because the state doesn't want more than 2 fbs schools but personally I don't believe that. I think this is more about the state trying to cover their butts in case of another situation like SC State.

I also think the boards wants to ensure the stadium upgrades aren't done on the backs of the students. They want to see some private money be donated. The legitimate beef that Coastal has is not being told the number they need to raise. Hard to hit a moving target.

The SC State issue unfortunately is a hurdle that effects CCU. The thought crossed my mind wondering if any of the U-AB political hankering was similar to what CCU was experiencing. I could see Clemson and So Carolina using their political clout to squash at every turn upstart (their possible position, not mine) Coastal not getting any help and presenting hurdles. With all of LU's challenges, being a private school and almost in the middle of VT and UVA territory, that is not an issue.
