Can ESPN Afford Big Ten Contract?
I don't really think it is about affordable or not, but a business media rights model in a state of flux.

Really think OTA for this short contract is better for B1G, and allows best flexibility.

OTA was always the smartest route. The B1G use to always have games on CBS, some on ABC and some on NBC. CBS was a big thing back in the day. Then they went to ESPN. Time to get back to OTA and stay there.

Notre Dame has benefited greatly over the decades for being on OTA.

Having all the game on OTA would be great, but it's not happening. CBS has no desire for more college football than the 15 or so SEC games they have a year. Big Ten needs to have games on ESPN/2, even if it is only one game a week for exposure purposes.

As far as exposure didn't MNF have better exposure on ABC/OTA but was switched to ESPN to drive Subs and money?

In other words ABC/OTA probably has better exposure than ESPN almost any time except very special events.

I'm not convinced ESPN has better exposure than any major OTA network, Cowherd used always talk about how tiny ESPN ratings were than typical OTA network; and this is when he worked there.

OTA is the better way to go about it. I work with a lot of people that just watch whatever college football game is on FOX, NBC, ABC or CBS on a Saturday night and don't even know what channel ESPN is on.

NFL had better ratings on ABC for MNF.

The four-letter network had (and may still have) a provision in their carriage contract that gives them a higher price if they have live NFL coverage. When Sunday Night Football went to the Peacock, the four-letter network had to pick up Monday Night Football to avoid an automatic pay cut, not to mention the inevitable ratings decline on top of that.

We will have lots of OTA games on Fox. At least one a week for sure. Probably most weeks a double hearder of a day game and a B1G game of the week at night.
