Clergeot a Tiger
Per his tweet, Keon Clergeot is now a Tiger.

Welcome to Tiger Nation!

Composite ranking of 303rd and next best offers were from UT Chatt, Stephen F Austin, and VCU. I know you kinda take what you can get this late in the game, but damn I miss the excitement of getting multiple top 100 recruits. I'll try to reserve judgement for a year or two, but Tubby's recruiting is the one thing that has me worried. At a place like Memphis you should be able to consistently put together top 20 recruiting classes.

Then again, those three programs were all in the NCAA tourney last year.

Since the end of the season, Memphis has....

1. Changed coaches from Josh Pastner to Tubby Smith.
2. Retained AAC FOY Dedric Lawson.
3. Secured 2 serviceable guards in Christian Kessee and Keon Clergeot.

I'd say so far it's been a freaking incredible summer.

It s pretty late in the game to expect a top 100 recruit, thanks to Pastner bolting so late. Can't blame Tubby Smith for a rather bare recruiting class (comparatively speaking) this year.

But I do expect for this team to look light years better in terms of discipline, execution, and game management that anything Pastner ever put on the court. We will win some games this year we probably shouldn't, given the lack of talent and depth. And that always bodes well for the future.

I'll take a coach who can win with 3 star players then a coach who loses consistently with 4 and 5 star players

True, but those three teams combined have only been to two sweet sixteens. You want to recruit the same as them?

Standard Tubby recruit. Not exciting. Not disappointing.

True but it hasn't been a 'REALLY freaking incredible summer' -- so some complain -

Well, it's one player and Louisville was showing interest when he re-opened his commitment.

I don't want to look up in 3 years and see a roster of nothing but 3 stars, but nothing wrong with a staff rolling the dice on a guy here or there either.

He wasn't really given the choice. Publicly the Memphis administration said they wanted him for another year...privately...they told him to find another job.

so much for Tubby "not recruiting".
Looks to me he's plugging some important holes.

The **star status matter only when you have a sh@# coach. Buddy Hield was a 3 star. sometimes it matter who is coaching them and the player's drive to get better. I would rather have a competent coach with 3 star recruits than an incompetent coach who loses with 5 star players.
