Guess the results of 2016 football season
I know this has been brought up briefly in other threads, but it's in the middle of the summer with not much to discuss so I thought it deserved it own thread. Thus is a tough schedule for a young team, with not many leaders returning in the skilled positions. I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but I think it's going to be a bad year for our Flames. Gill will have to do his best coaching job to get this team to a playoff.
L: Sept 3, Va Tech
W: Sept 10, Jacksonville
L: Sep 17, SMU
L: Sep 24, Jacksonville State
W: Oct 1, Robert Morris
L: Oct 15, Kennesaw State*
W: Oct 22, Monmouth*
W: Oct 29, Gardner-Webb*
W: Nov 5, Presbyterian*
L: Nov 12, Charleston Southern*
L: Nov 17, Coastal Carolina
I see a 5-6 season. I really hope I'm wrong, but there's not many wins I see. Jacksonville State could easily win the FCS championship this year. They've loaded up on SEC transfers, having just got a stud rb from Auburn. I don't see this team beating an FBS team nor Coastal that is transitioning to FBS. The head scratcher is Kennesaw State. We typically have that one game that we lose, but shouldn't and KS could be that game. What say you?

I too give Liberty losses to FBS schools (and transitioning ones). Plus they are all on the road so Virginia Tech, SMU, and Coastal Carolina are three I expect to lose right off the bat.
Jacksonville State and Charleston Southern will be tough but they are at home so I think they will be toss ups. I think we split these games which puts us at 1-4 so far in my predictions.
We likely lose another since it is in our nature but I think we should win most, if not all, of the remaining games. Putting us around 6-7 wins and 4-5 losses.
Gill has a team that is completely recruited by himself and his team now. No excuses. It is up to him to build a winner and make us attractive for FBS.

Guess the results of 2016 football season
I am hoping for a 7 win season. With our schedule, that would be a good accomplishment.

I'm with LG on this one. Either 5-6 or 6-5 and either, especially the later, makes a hard look at Gill inevitable as the best fit at this time.

Unfortunately, I agree. Another mediocre year will raise questions. I really like Coach Gill. Can we get a great coach at LU?

We're paying enough to get a solid coach.

I think we will play ok and have a barely passable season. CSU will get the auto bid and we will be left out. In regards to we pay enough for a solid coach statement, we don't really. If LU is going to to stick with the whole hardcore Christian thing that limits us on who we can hire and who wants to come coach. There is no way around that no matter what we think about it. What I want is for LU to be more main stream like Baylor but without the whole coaches hiding players raping woman thing.

It was reported that Gill makes well over $500,000 a year. I would challenge you to find and FCS coach that makes more. Gil makes more than several FBS coaches. I also don't buy into the notion that we can't hire a quality Christian coach.

Why compare the pay FCS secular schools give their HC? We can't do that just like we can't compare the kids they recruit to the kids we recruit. For who we are we have to pay more and even then we limit ourselves to coaches that are Christian. Baylor just let their coach go why don't we go hire that guy. He would be the things Gill isn't that we need. You know the whole winning thing.

Were not going to hire Briles because he looked the other way when his players sexually assaulted females. Even try to do his own investigation. No one will touch him for awhile. While I agree liberty recruits a different type of kid, there's lots of quality Christian coaches out there.
