RE: ACC ACC ACC
I'm ok with the ND deal.
I am very curious about the OTT part of the network. The B1G and SEC networks are based on the cable model. That is great for right now but the trend is clear towards streaming. Clearly the ACC is betting on streaming vs cable distribution.

One thing I don't like is the fact that they stated you'll need an ESPN subscription to watch it - which means they will NOT be selling the ACC Network Plus a la carte. Bummer.
It also sounds like the ACC Network Plus will be on demand rather than linear streaming - my question would be why not offer it both ways?
Maybe I'm just misunderstanding, but to me if the digital part comes out first it needs to be BETTER THAN the SEC Network Plus - not just "as good as".

RE: ACC ACC ACC
As soon as ESPN/ACC/Whoever can buy back the games from Fox/Raycom/whoever (at a good price), the ACC Network will launch.
I still SMH at those who said the ACC was the weakest P5 link when all the evidence (ALL OF IT) points to the Big XII as the weak link, as it has continually since Nebraska gave Texas the middle finger and said "Peace Out".
Now we have an extension of the GOR which is a good thing. I dare FSU fans to force the powers-that-be at FSU to force a challenge of it in court and leave. Because, really, where would FSU go? Again, the Big XII is a Texas Ego Trip Gone Awry from being extinct.
And, this is important, we keep Notre Dame around.
Having Notre Dame around AT ANY CAPACITY is better than not having Notre Dame around at all. Y'all know folks would be calling Swofford everything but a "child of God" if he let Notre Dame get away only to have ND align itself with the Big XII.
Remember, many of us old timers are still looking at Gene Corrigan with an evil *side eye* b/c he let Penn State escape. (Lumber can fill in those details if he so chooses...)
As it stands, the ACC (ACC! ACC!) is stable as a mofo, is working towards a modern-day Network offering and is on the CFB uptick.
Be patient enough and Texas will fall right into our lap.

PSU getting away was not Gene's fault. He couldn't move Maryland on PSU (they opposed PSU in the 80's because they could not beat them on the football field, and Florida in the 70's because of distance and lack of vision). Without MD's approval, you could not get UNC and UVa to fully support PSU in private so the issue waffled around until the B10 made a move.

1) The ACC GOR extension is the bigger deal, keeps ACC safe in next round of realignment. ACC will be among the hunters instead of the hunted.
2) Extending the ND agreement strengthens the ACC. IF they join a conference it has to be the ACC.
3) Conferences going to 9 games won't effect ND, they all will make room for them.
4) The ACCN will be similar to the SECN setup, won't be like the B1GN or the PACN.
5) He doesn't know the details of the agreement or the financials.
6) There has to be ways to tweak the agreement, lookins & such. Over 20 years, both sides would want ways to make adjustments.
7) While ND is a partial in the ACC, 9 games is unlikely. With ACC teams having rivals & ND there wouldn't be any scheduling flexibility.
8) The commish will announce the ACCN this week.
9) 2019 is the latest, slight possibility for 2018 launch.
Podcast?
I'll look & see if its up yet. McMurphy was on ESPN 680 with Drew Deener this morning.
Edit: here's the website, waiting for hour 3 to be posted.

3. more prestige
NEGATIVE:
1. longer GOR, contract
2. wait 3 years for cable channel
3. end up paying more for cable

I read that all Live games will be on ACC Network Plus not ESPN 3... So it will have live streaming...How much I do not know... I think it is smart to tie it to ESPN Sub.... That way when they offer Stand alone Sub Script package to cord cutters they get $$...

Sorry.
Everyone was asleep at the switch when Florida wanted to move in the 70's and they stunk in all sports. Damn that Steve Spurrier.
I think what so many miss is that since the ACC began to focus on expansion targets, that we have not missed on anyone.
PSU was gone before the PTB at MD, UNC, and UVa grasped the situation. NC State was a big PSU promoter as we had a healthy rivalry with them in football and around the same time had a good rivalry with ND in basketball.
The average time between initial semi-formal contact (more than a single chancellor/president speaking at an AAU meeting or the like) and the offer to join and acceptance runs about 7-9 years. The longest lead times have been with Miami, Syracuse and ND. (Louisville was a special exception and so is VT).

RE: ACC ACC ACC
Not a fan of the GoR going that ludicrously far out. It will be an entire GENERATION before that GoR comes up. That's just flat out unacceptable. Even if the ACCN makes more money than all the others and puts the ACC into #1 in distribution ... I'm still not a fan of a GoR that long. That's a death pact, not a GoR. And a death pact with the worldwide leader which so enjoys filling its studios with SEC personalities, shitting on the ACC whenever possible, carrying the SEC's water whenever possible, having Friday night games, and other unsavory things.

With so many colorful personalities coming from ACC schools and the #1 school in sports broadcasting the ESPN better start bringing out more fluffers for the ACC.
