OOC scheduling
Have you guys tried to get more instate schools to come to Lynchburg? I feel like having VMI would be a great home game that would draw a large crowd. What about someone like Hampton or Norfolk St? I've seen a lot of people complain about the home schedule and I feel that having some regional opponents would allow for more visiting fans. Thoughts? Also you have Richmond and William and Mary. Just throwing this out to see what's been done.

RE: OOC scheduling
We played Richmond at home s couple years ago, but Rocco said he would prefer not to play Liberty again while he's coaching at Richmond. VMI wouldn't be a bad team to get, but I can tell you that Norfolk state or Hampton wouldn't excite many people. The OOC had actually gotten much better. Last year Montana visited Lynchburg and this year Jacksonville state comes in. JMU were scheduled to be in Lynchburg, but canceled and left us scrambling a couple years ago.

I get that it might not be the best get but I feel Hampton would be a game that is 1) winnable 2) should bring a good group of traveling fans. I feel it would be better than Robert Morris.

RE: OOC scheduling
I'm okay with what Liberty is doing now. A couple years ago when we had Division II schools, I would have agreed. VMI was a Big South school as I'm sure you are aware and I don't remember them moving the needle any more than any other Big South school but someone can correct me if I'm wrong. We had a series with Norfolk State not too long ago either.

I think the only regional school we haven't played is Hampton. I know we've played JMU, NSU, Richmond, ODU. Really, JMU and ODU are the ones that excite me.

OOC scheduling
Liberty is doing a great job with scheduling two FBS teams a year and filling in the rest of their schedule... with no lower division teams.

I'd love to play the regional FBS teams (UVa, VT, ODU, Navy, any of the Carolina schools). But, I also like when Liberty really hits the road to places like FL, TX, CA, the hotbeds of football.

Well you guys could always talk to teams from Sun Belt and CUSA. One way to create interest in Liberty is to play competitively against the teams you would play in these conferences and have a large tailgate. Georgia Southern, FAU, FIU, ODU, Charlotte. Its much easier to make the argument that you guys deserve to be FBS if you can play and occasionally beat FBS teams.

Last year we played GA State and beat them. The year before that we played App State and beat them. Both are Sun Belt teams .

We should have won at ODU 3 years ago. Lost in the last couple minutes. I've got no issues with Liberty's scheduling. This year I would think the schedule has to be one of the toughest in FCS. Va Tech, SMU, Coastal, Jacksonville state and Charleston Southern will all be tough games and we won't be favored in any of those.

RE: OOC scheduling
Kudos to AD Graham for dropping D2 schools that had zero appeal and no benefit and aggressively pursuing FBS program. If playing FBS is the goal then play as many as possible. The fastest way to advance is to play better competition rather than developing local\regional FCS programs.

RE: OOC scheduling
17 - Baylor
18 - Wake Forest
19 -
20 - Va. Tech

I am assuming that if everything goes as planned we need to find five more FBS games to play through 2020. I'd guess in 17-20 we'll try to find a SBC, C-USA, or MAC team to play, and in 19 we need a P5 team.

RE: OOC scheduling
I thought for sure Baylor would have bought out the Liberty game. They took some heat over their strength of schedule and we do nothing to help that for them. That's a great game for us though.

Does anyone give us a chance at beating VT?

I think we have a chance.

Things in our favor: New coach at VT, our coach has "his guys", it's the first game of the season, we may be taken lightly, VT isn't that good compared to other P5 schools. I wouldn't say we have a good chance but if James Madison can do it, then surely we can too.

RE: OOC scheduling
The positives are they're unsettled at qb, rb and they lost several defensive players. The negative is their roster is littered with 3* players and a few 4*'s. Some say stars don't matter, I think they do. I think we'll cover, but beating them is going to be an uphill battle.

I know I'm just being a homer, but the closer the season gets, the more I like our chances. The whole new coach, new system thing, gives me hope.

Not to be a downer but this team is going to be too talented. I don't see any way y'all win. Maybe keep it under 20 points but to say a win would be dreaming. Now I do see a shot at Baylor next season, that is a dumpsterfire and y'all get it after the terrible recruiting class coming. That could be a huge upset in the making.

Who said we'd beat them? I don't think anyone thinks we'll win. We're just saying things that could be in our favor that would likely be the reasons we win.

RE: OOC scheduling
Tech may actually start a fr qb. That would help I'm sure. The area I'm concerned about the most is special teams. Lots of times special teams is where you see a huge difference between FCS and FBS. FBS schools like tech will have 3 and 4 star kids on special teams. Kids that are in the two deep positions. You see a huge difference in speed.

Win or lose, I'm counting the days down.
