15 ACC-connected athletes won medals for USA
55 athletes presently or previously connected to 11 universities of the ACC competed in the Rio Olympics in behalf of the USA. Of these 55, 15 won medals. One athlete, Leah Smith of UVa, won two medals making ACC's total to be 13. Duke & UL each had two athletes to win a medal and ND had 3 to do so.
If women's soccer and field hockey teams had not been unexpectedly knocked out before the medal rounds then the number of athletes winning medals would have gone from 15 to about 50! (with UNC and UVa having most of them).
Congratulations to the 15 ACC medal winners!
Gold:
Leah Smith, UVa
Ryan Held, NC St.
Amanda Polk, ND
Brianna Rollins, CL
Harrison Barnes, UNC
Carmelo Anthony, Syr
Kyrie Irving, Duke
Kelsi Worrell, UL
Angel McCoughtry, UL
Silver:
Sam Dorman, MIA
Bronze:
Leah Smith, UVa
Kristi Castlin, VT
Matt Kuchar, GT
Gerek Meinhardt, ND
Ibthaihaj Muhammad, Duke
Mariel Zagunis, ND

Kelsi Worrell, currently a swimmer from the University of Louisville, won a gold as part of one of the relays too.

It doesn't fit on your list but Rebecca Quinn of Duke won a bronze as part of the Canadian soccer team. There's probably others with ACC associations who won medals for other nations.
