Well, Now that Basketball is Over, What are the....
prospects for next year, all you basketburl aficionados out there?
Like so many USM fans, I kept up with the scores and all (especially during our late "run"), but haven't really paid close attention to the roster.
Maybe guys like stink can fill us in: Are we gonna be underdawgs to Bill Carey again next season and hope for a .500 season, or do it look like we've turned the corner under Doc?
Inquiring minds gotsta know..

it's a gimme putt we're gonna miss Griff, Edwards, and Magee...
we finally get to the point our full compliment of scholly's is allowed....it'll be pretty tough to not make the most of that...
I have no clue who Doc and corp. are recruiting....however, after this year, I would venture the odds are better at finding suitable replacements than any during his years here....
I would expect nothing shy of what Doc accomplished this year....that guy is my kind of corch!
I'm won't put him in Monk 'turnaround' status....I'll raise it a black chip with our hoops budget...
what he's done with the tools that were available in the shed is nothing shy of impressive....
as an aside, I'll bet he's going to mow his yard today....I know where he lives and who he bought the house from....no spygate req'd

We’ve got a decent base to start with but will need to find a few immediate impact players
Core returners:
Draine
Harper-Baker
Watson
Rowe
Bench players:
Jacdonmi
Marshall
Stevenson

replacing Griff is going to be tough....you don't find guys that can move the ball the way he did...
all I can hope for is we go after a PG that is flying under the radar....
however, I thought the same thing about Watson....
they're out there.....it's just a matter of finding one that fits into this team's personality...

this is why I love Doc....he knows speed and system...
as many of us have stated, let's see what he can do once all the DT bs subsides....
we need Rowe to beef up on the inside w/o drawing fouls in the first 10 mins (fwiw, he got hosed on two calls yesterday)....this is where H-B will become important next year....he's no spoon, but he has the tools and quickness at that size...
I firmly believe next year will be just as much fun as watching Doc's turnaround this year....

On roster but rarely contribute
Weatherspoon (redshirted)
Clark
Daniel
So with us losing 5 as well as gaining a scholarship from probation we should have 3 available once you include the 3 from the link above.

I’d expect something similar to this season, just not as dramatic in the negative extremes. With what we’re having to replace, it’ll take a little time for the team to fully get its feet under it. The big difference is now the guys who are coming back already know how to win and expect to do so.

How the roster currently looks/appears to be for next season with classifications for 2019-20 season
Draine: 6-4 Jr Guard
Harper-Baker: 6-5 Sr Forward
Watson: 6-2 Soph Forward
Rowe: 6-11 Sr Forward
Jacdonmi: 6-9 Sr Forward
Marshall: 6-5 SophForward
Stevenson: 6-7 Soph Forward
Weatherspoon: 6-2 Jr Guard
Clark: 6-0 Sr Guard
Daniel: 6-5 Soph Forward
Denijay Harris: 6-7 Soph G/F (currently listed as FR on JuCo website)
Jay Malone: 6-1 Soph (listed as R-Fr on his JuCo website)
Jorell Saterfield: 6-4 Fr G/F (avg 28 pts and 8 rebounds HS Sr season that just finished)
With 13 spots accounted for and what should be 3 remaining scholarships I feel like my numbers are off as basketball has a 15 player cap or at least of the 5-7 CUSA rosters I looked at had a max of 15.

Basketball playing in the CBI post season tournament. It must have one requirement and that be you’re willing to pay to play. Our opponent is Longwood which finished with a 12-17 record and a NET ranking of 291. Game is at Longwood which is in Farmville, VA on Wednesday night at 6:00 pm our time.
Assuming we win we would then play the winner of DePaul and Central Michigan on Monday March 25.

It costs $50,000 to host the first-round.
Longwood’s gym holds 1900 and they averaged just over 1200 per game this year, so there’s no way in hell they’re making that back. They do, however, have a 1st-year coach who won 15 games, 8 more than they did the year before, and has already tied the school mark for conference wins in the Big South, so they’re investing in that and taking the opportunity to keep building toward next year.
I didn’t find any current info, but in past years, the deeper you played, the more it cost to host each round. Don’t hold your breath waiting for another home game.

A little more info on Longwood. Their gym/arena/colisuem is Willet Hall and has a capacity of 1900. As well, they are giving away free tickets to faculty, staff, students and season ticket holders to the first round game so as you said there's no chance they'll come close to making their money back.
arena website:
https://longwoodlancers.com/sports/2006/...thall.aspx
free admission press release:
https://longwoodlancers.com/news/2019/3/...th=mbasket
Longwood will offer free first-round tickets for Longwood faculty, staff and students, Longwood season-ticket holders, and children ages five and younger on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Yeah, don't see this happening either. But the CBI does play a Best of 3 Championship, so if we got there, we'd be guaranteed to host at least one.
