In Tom Herman's AAC presser, he said he really didn't find it appealing to be the underfunded Big 12 team.

Not only that, but now the Big 12 is living with the stigma of an impending raid.

I think Aresco now can go to television partners without really having to defend the prospect of a potential raid. The Big 12 just did the AAC a huge favor.

Now that the big12 expansion has been put to rest here hope Mike Aresco will move forward aggressively for a better tv $$$ deal for this league.

The AAC needs stability just like those high revenue leagues and a tv deal improvement could very well provide that.

Agreed. Although most UC, UH, and UConn fans don't want to admit it...this is a GREAT day for the American Conference.

P5's looking at 12-16 members can whittle down the B12.

What's left in the B12 vs the AAC to see who has the gravitational pull to attract members with those remnants and some best of the rest candidates in the MWC can put together.

Its never been about the conference mates so much as it has been the money difference in the BCS/P5 vs. everyone else.

For those that believed the Big Money Train of College Football was going to evolve into the P4 Super 16 Conferences, this could very well be the beginning of that process. Big12 will get picked apart by the ACC, Big1G, Pac12 and SEC go to 16 and we have a perfect little package for the playoffs with potentially two schools from each conference going into a 8 team playoff for the National Championship.

Glad we're not going to have any more tiers in our contract. It killed our negotiating position. The Big 12 has tiers (UT/OU... and then the 8) and I think that has become their narrative. Boren tried so hard at the press conference to fight the perception of an impending split.

Some folks keep viewing TV revenue strictly through an AAC perspective. That is, deserving a better TV contract and actually having the leverage to execute a new, more lucrative contract are not guaranteed. Until another network competes for our rights why would ESPN be motivated to significantly increase their payout? Why would they big against themselves?

Heck...if anything else, the stunt the B12 just pulled may have cost the AAC any "extra" money ESPN could have used to improve our payout.
