Who knows what Brey will do when "Mama" calls? Unlike some fans, I am a realist, know coaches are mercenaries by necessity and don't buy into "He loves it here, he will never leave" like some fans.
But, he is a perfect fit for ND and has done well there. But, he gets very little support from the ND administration.
He plays in an old arena that seats less than 9k, does not have a separate basketball practice facility and has a basketball budget much lower than many other schools.
So, like Paul Maineri leaving ND for LSU's baseball program, I would not be shocked if Brey left to coach Duke.
I would hate to see that but would understand.
Don't think that's likely to happen. Brey isn't a Duke alum. He just worked as an assistant at Duke quite a few years ago. I don't think Duke would go for someone his age. Hiring a coach from within your conference happens sometimes but it's generally frowned upon. If Duke were looking within the conference, Tony Bennett's name would come up long before Brey's. Duke fans have not been mentioning Brey's name as a possible replacement for Coach K.
