RE: OT: Liberty AD Resigns
I'm squarely in the FBS at ALL costs camp... but this thread helped me find my breaking point. I'd rather stay CAA4LYFE than get called up in a conference with LU. they are the worst. I thought I hated RU, but these recollections are making me feel like I hate Jerry U more!

You have GOT to be kidding. That's incredible. More than EW got in his contract at FBS TX State.

By comparison, NDSU, a monster FCS program, pays its coach $300K:

https://mcfeely.areavoices.com/2016/04/2...t-so-much/

Private donations or not, Liberty is nuts to pay any coach $750K.

When you're selling yourself as God's school, and giving easy access to classes online, the dollars start piling up.

Shouldn't they be using that money to....like...feed the poor or something?

It's almost like this school founded by a televangelist is throwing around large sums of money just for the social status. Weird.

And Liberty continues to be a joke of a university after hiring the former Baylor AD that resigned due to the rape scandal. With Falwell and this guy, Liberty has two of the worst representatives for a Christian university that I can imagine. Oh, and there's this:

"None of the senior athletic department officials were aware McCaw had been hired until he walked through the door in his introductory news conference, a source told ESPN's Brett McMurphy."

And then there's this quote: "You look at what Baylor was able to do during his tenure. It fits perfectly with where we see our sports programs going."

They see their sports going to hell? And what was Baylor "able to do during his tenure?" Elevate football to a pedestal above Christian values, basic human decency, and the law; place female students at risk of rape and assault; completely ruin the university's reputation in exchange for money and TV time. Is that worth it? I actually feel bad for Liberty fans.

Oh, and Liberty opens their 2017 football season at Baylor next year.

This is almost unfathomable from any decent human's perspective.

Is there any Liberty fan, student, or alumni or who actually supports this hire?

They probably didn't tell any of the other athletic department officials because they all knew he had a scarlet letter... How a school that wants to be the BYU of the east could turn around and hire this guy is ridiculous. I thought the school sold its soul a long time ago, but this is surprisingly bad for the low regard I previously had for them.

Didn't realize Ken Starr was president of Baylor at the time. How ironic the way he went on a Clinton sperm hunt, yet was okay covering up these rapes.

Ian McCaw was the AD at Northeastern from 1997 to 2002.

He was the AD that hired Don Brown (now Michigan defensive coord.), who led NU to our only A-10 conference championship in 2002.

But he was a bit of sleaze ball back then too, but a younger one ...

I suppose it is the Christian thing to do to practice what you preach - forgiveness?

That's exactly how they are spinning it on the liberty boards. Give him a second chance. Many are just straight out saying good hire and speculating when art briles becomes the fb coach.

What have you been drinking? Don't see much positive spin at all on our boards. Seems that the majority of us aren't pleased with the hire, much in the same way we aren't pleased with the actions of the chancellor.

Is that a reference to the fact that the hiring was kept secret from other administration officials? I'm not trying to be sarcastic or anything, I just literally don't know.

Many Liberty fans online seem to be embarrassed by it. No one is cheering it. I don't know how you can keep supporting the university in any capacity at this point.

If JMU did this, I'd have to think long and hard about following any sports or developments from the university moving forward and probably choose to part ways.

Well, I was a little queasy when we hired EW after his time at UNCHeat. He had to have known about the rampant academic fraud while working on Butch "the Chief" Davis's staff. Having said that, academic fraud is not as bad as some of the things that were going on at Baylor.
