Your "tweener conference" will never be more than this in Perception or Income. Umass would still love to get in there, but it is what it is.
College football is not getting bigger in terms of pure girth - if anything it is starting to shrink. Between the growing concerns over concussions and a bunch of schools who think they are FCS that merely water down the true top of the heap... the true TV income generating football games are getting smaller and smaller in number.
The AAC is little more than an island of misfit toys for College Football. You have a solid football conference - the 6th best. You are probably in a class all by yourself actually. You have a slightly less solid men's basketball conference, 7th best. As great as UConn's women's hoop team is - nobody gives a **** with regard to that enhancing your P5 resume - that is laughable.
The powers that be will
never ever accept a 6th slice to the money pie -
NEVER. If anything they are looking to push the B12 down and give you a dance partner in the tweener group (of course not until after they are stripped of Texas and Oklahoma).
You can keep dreaming of P6 all you want, but there are much more realistic and attainable goals you could spend your time on.
