Recruiting: Where we stand now
With national signing day coming up on February 1st, thought I'd give a look at where everybody stands. It is fun to look at but until they actually sign...it doesn't mean a thing. Pulling this from 247 composite.

*formating is a pain. So here is what the number mean.
Total: total number of recruits for this period
The numbers: 5=number of 5 star recruits..4=4 star, 3=3 star
Average= The the average player rating of all the recruits.

Ohio State (2nd nationally, 1st B1G)
Total: 19 5: 5 4: 13 3: 1 Avg: 95.20

Michigan (4th / 2nd)
Total: 26 5: 1 4: 17 3: 8 Avg: 91.16

Penn State (15th / 3rd)
Total: 18 5: 0 4: 9 3: 9 Avg: 88.81

Maryland (16th / 4th)
Total: 28 5: 0 4: 8 3: 20 Avg: 86.66

Nebraska (21st / 5th)
Total: 19 5: 0 4: 5 3: 14 Avg: 87.38

Michigan State (31st / 6th)
Total: 20 5: 0 4: 4 3: 16 Avg: 86.22

Rutgers (38th / 7th)
Total: 23 5: 0 4: 3 3: 18 Avg: 83.52

Northwestern (42nd / 8th)
Total: 19 5: 0 4: 1 3: 18 Avg: 85.11

Wisconsin (43rd / 9th)
Total: 16 5: 0 4: 1 3: 14 Avg: 85.63

Illinois (44th / 10th)
Total: 20 5: 0 4: 0 3: 19 Avg: 84.62

Iowa (50th / 11th)
Total: 15 5: 1 4: 1 3: 13 Avg: 85.72

Minnesota (52nd / 12th)
Total: 27 5: 0 4: 0 3: 26 Avg: 83.34

Indiana (59th / 13th)

Rutgers is looking like they'll be making a nice little jump soon from what I've been hearing.

Yes, Maryland is doing REALLY well this year. Coach Durkin has been rocking the recruiting scene. It doesn't mean anything until they actually sign but it looks good right now. Also, many people think they will end up somewhere between 20-25 with a chance at the upper teens. Still really good but not quite where they are at this moment. Others are going to pass due to big names signing. There are a few kids currently committed that will most likely flip to Florida on signing day. Overall, going well for Maryland. It better continue because I saw something that said the Terps had the 2nd most difficult schedule in the nation next year. Going bowling is going to be really hard. They Will Likely be a more talented team but not have the record to show for it.

Apparently now he's switched to UCF LOLOLOL what's going on with that kid. In the past week:

- says he is 90% sure to ole miss
- takes RU official
- named top three of UCF RU MSU (with RU the favorite)
- postponed signing day to visit MSU
- cancelled MSU visit
- committed to Maryland on signing day
- signed with UCF on day after signing day

Yeah...this is a really strange story. From what I understand he probably was going to have a hard time qualifying (not impossible but difficult). Don't know if he was doing it just to troll or what. Whatever the reason, I wish him the best of luck.

Richardson obviously didn't want to play for a team in the basement. Rutgers and Marylands next BCS game will be their first. UCF was there less than a handful of years ago, and beat the B12 champ.

RE: Recruiting: Where we stand now
LOL...I'm not sure how Richardson chose Maryland. It's almost like he pulled the school's name out of a hat. From what I've read during this recruiting season, he certainly wasn't on Maryland's radar. Besides we already have two chippers in Anthony McFarland and Javon Leake.

All in all, I'm really happy that Maryland's recruiting class didn't fall apart en masse after the beat downs we suffered against Ohio State and Michigan. We play a very tough schedule in 2017. So I'm hoping for a 6-6 record and an even stronger 2018 recruiting class.

What's up Rutgers? How did your school fare this recruiting season? I hope your football program shows improvement next season.

Granted it was a while ago and it was a loss but UMD was in the '01 orange bowl (UMD's last ACC football title)vs the Rex Grossman led Gators, which was a BCS bowl. The Richardson situation is a little foggy but from what I'm gathering he would have had to go prep for a year (academic issues) if he stayed. Wish him the best of luck either way though.

I'm pretty happy with Penn State's class. We didn't have a lot of room being a young team with very little turnover despite being the reigning Big Ten champions. We should be stacked for another run next year and a very heavily upper class-men team.

We did quite well, especially considering the disaster of the last few years that was Kyle Flood (sucking at recruiting, sucking at coaching, and the multiple scandals and disciplinary issues) combined with a terrible season of a roster with very little FBS quality talent. I think these recruits will make a difference for our squad, we added a lot of speed and big hitters as well as got ourselves a potential gamechanger at QB & OT and several good WRs. Throw in the additions of a big legged kicker and a graduate transfer of the best punter in DIII (avg 46+ yds per punt). Add in the transfer home of the Mitchell brothers from Michigan and Arkansas. If not for Maryland and Penn State grabbing a few of the players that had Rutgers as their final 2, we probably could have hit the top 30-35. Looking forward to seeing these players make a difference. Best class we've had since the last class that Schiano took in before jumping to the Buccaneeers. Nice to see that NJ prospects are coming back to their hometown U.

UCF had an outstanding run for a couple years but they quickly followed with their disastrous 0-12 season. I doubt the W-L or BCS history that had any real impact on Richardson's decision to be honest. Most likely was that after he learned that he wouldn't qualify for Rutgers or Maryland, he went for UCF's offer but probably won't qualify for UCF either from what I've heard because he may be below the NCAA standards in general.

RE: Recruiting: Where we stand now
COnference as a whole did well considering many programs have fewer than the national average of rides to award. Cats are one of only 2 programs with a Bowl win and returning their HC and most of staff. That plus not much turnover and adding some quality talent means that Cats can compete for the Western Division in 17
