2017 CSN Boards March Madness Tournament Bracket

Gonzaga being mid major is a lot like networks trying to sell South Carolina, an SEC power 5 team, as a Cinderella. I'm not buying it.

Completely agree, MJ. Me calling Gonzaga a mid major was an oversimplification of their stature in college basketball. Only meant it in the sense that they are not a P5 team or a P5 blue blood at that. Gonzaga along with a few others (Wichita State and Butler come to mind) are major programs now and have a feel closer to Carolina or Kentucky than they do to a program like ours. Makes me happy though to see a mid major squad break out of that bubble and achieve major success (much like I hope of our program).

I was also irked that every announcer called South Carolina a Cinderella. Sorry, but if you're in the SEC and getting SEC money, you are not a Cinderella.

Go Zags!

Disagree. Midmajor is a conference designation. There may be teams in the conference that are greater than that like Gonzaga (who should be strong every year) but they are still part of a mid major.

That said, South Carolina is more of a Cinderella then anyone else that made it close to this far (kind of like Nova in 1985). Before this year, SC made the tourney in 2004 then 1998, 1997 then 1989 and only other times were 1971-1974 and were a 7 seed this year. They are not close to what you call a tourney team.

I'll give you that mid major is typically a conference designation. But with a recruiting and program budget rivaling any P5 program, lumping them in as a mid major seems disingenuous.

South Carolina is a 26 win team that finished in the upper half of a power conference. I'll give you that they were inconsistent which contributed to their seeding, but they strike me as an up and down good team that peaked at the right time. That's not Cinderella, IMO. Cinderella is Belmont, Davidson, VCU, or GMU. It's teams from non power conferences that defy the odds and go rounds. Heck I'd even throw in a lower seed from a power conference. That wasn't South Carolina. South Carolina was a 4 seed in the SEC with wins over Big 10 & Big East teams. They have the talent to compete with any team in the SEC and most any team in the country.

Wow, is this a fun game to watch.

All I want for Christmas is Zach Collins in a Tribe uniform on the court at the same time with Nathan, with David picking which tower to feed it to, and a stifling defense.

Is this a basketball NC or an official NC. Total shame on these guys. Supposed to be invisible.

Congrats tribemike09, but I wanted the Zags.......

Guess the UNC investigation will go on indefinitely now. Assume it was the UNC fans booing the NCAA president during the trophy ceremony.
