cincinnati's very own... mill creek!
http://www.wcpo.com/longform/morning-on-the-mill-creek
it's a lengthy article. if you want me to post it, i'll start a separate thread with a poll attached.
anyways, i just stumbled upon this article. it's from a few years ago, but as you can imagine, it's not dated. i'm finishing up a book about the mill creek. it's appropriately my sh!tter book. such a fascinating albeit common tale. there's nothing unusual about it's current state. upstart industrial cities. as the creek goes, so goes cincinnati.
i never knew the flood waters caught fire in '37. ain't that gay as hell. ctip shook hands with the mayor of shantytown back when shantytown was an unincorporated municipality at the mouth of mill creek and not at the bottom of some flood water en route to cairo. every man's dream. you can only imagine what kind of town shantytown was. 200 given up work men women families. lived in busted up packet boats and cobbled together cobbles. a self appointed mayor and his self appointed lackeys benevolently governed. steinbeck would have felt at home.
unlike the mighty ohio, pirates and whorehouses didn't stand sentry to the bountiful land beyond. now it's mostly sh!t and leeches. anyways, i'm f*cking stoked about a booze cruise. which probably won't happen because there's surprisingly better times and places. but i really want to raft with these yatchers. i've been saying that for some time now.
i would post more but i'm going to leave. cheerio!
